A new Twilight:2000... how would you do it?

The backgrounds in both remain unchanged. What you are hearing are from folks who *want* us to re-do the backgrounds.

Thank you for that info! That's great to hear.

Which versions of the background story will you be using? I hope it's v2.2's (as opposed to v1.0 or v2.0) for the upcoming Twilight: 2000 and 2300AD's (as opposed to Traveller: 2300) for the upcoming 2300AD. :)

...what? Twilight: 2000 is an actual game?

I remember playing Twilight:2000 on my 386 DOS Shell 3 game. It was 5 3.5 floppies. The best part was creating characters. Although I never got passed the 4th mission cause I needed a party member who could speak like... Mobadishu or some language that I still doubt the exsistance of. And each time I made a new game, the NPC who only spoke some odd ball language would be different and I could never get it.

Whats the pencil-paper version like?

I had the computer version too though I didn't play it all that much. Damn tanks kept taking me out from a distance. I DID use the character creation part to make my characters for the pencil/paper version though. Did all the number crunching for me. :D

Yep - it *was* good for creating characters. Of course, it was v2.0, IIRC, that they used. I found myself getting killed by a tank (while driving a 2 1/2-ton truck full of supplies) like 10 or 15 times before I finally gave up on the game.

All this Twilight: 2000 talk has reminded me that kids who were born at the very end of the Cold War have recently become teenagers or will become teenagers later this year... damn, I'm old! :(

I feel your pain. To think that there are people in the world who don't remember a time where the USSR and the USA were standing ready to nuke each other in oblivion certainly makes me feel old.

Anyway, back to the thread. I've heard a vote for "Blood & Guts" by RPG objects. What about Spycraft? I've never played it. Would it make a good d20 version of T2K while we all wait for the official T2K from QLI?

I play Spycraft and I really like it. However, it would take some work to represent T2K - the majority of the classes aren't really that suited to T2K (the base classes, from all of the different Spycraft products are: Explorer, Faceman, Fixer, High Roller, Martial Artist, Mentalist, Physical Adept, Pointman, Scientist, Snoop, Sleuth, Soldier, Spin Doctor, Telepath, Wheelman, Wire.) Hidden within the Deparment lists of the basic Spycraft splatbooks is some good information, though.

I dunno - it seems to me it is too skewed to a cold-war spying game rather than a hot-war shooting game. The information presented on military characters is just too thin.

However - it *would* make a good Merc:2000 game, if you were willing to sacrifice some detail.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one here who feels old. :)

Would today's young generation be able to appreciate the upcoming Twilight: 2000 as much as we did/do?

Small Arms: head

My friend Jeff and I played the original 2k all of '85 and the first half of '86. In a single campaign, we'd logged 36 PC deaths between 4 players. Most popular cause of death being Small Arms fire to the head. It got so lethal, that we would play 2 characters at a time, just so we wouldn't be out of luck if one of our characters bought the agricultural real-estate.

Only 2 characters survived the whole campaign to get home. my character Francis X. O'Hallaran, a photojournalist and some time spy, and Poco Pie, my friend Lance's whacked-out Ranger. God I miss that campaign... Good times, Good times.

d20 Modern rule base would be fine by me. I'd like to pick it up without having to pick up $3x10^5 in sourcebooks.

As a side note, we adapted the 1st ediiton T:2k rules for Battletech and it really worked out. The 1st edition rules were simple once you learned got past the Character Generation Worksheet.
