Rathan

First Post
With ariels sword... if someone of lower than 3rd tier wins it.... lets say they are second tier.... what happens???

1.) does in make the third power one shot in this case Mastery Phoenix untill the winner of the sword becomes 3rd tier???

or

2.) does the third power simply disappear????

This is from the Rules page, but I don't know how much of it is applicable to an item won in a tournament...

Items are allowed to have as many powers as a character possesses tiers. Thus an item owned by a white belt may only have 1 power, whilst an item owned by a Green belt may have up to 3 powers. Powers must be purchased for yen and if a character with a maximum empowered item loses a tier, the most recently activated power becomes dormant until the fighter regains their old tier (if more than 1 tier is lost, more than 1 power will become dormant if necessary). Items can be given to another fighter at any time. However, a fighter may never have more than 1 "real" item at a time and may have to destroy or give away another item to keep the gift. Any powers that become dormant because of the new owners tier rank are considered lost forever. Furthermore, if an item is given away, its powers become temporary. Each time a power is used, that power is lost. When all the powers are used, the item remains "real", but the fighter must spend yen on it to add powers. A fighter may spend yen as normal to make any temporary powers permanent again.

Maybe if someone higher up can clarify this bit?

An item that is won in a tournament is still "given" by one fighter to another, and so the rules for gifted weapons applies here too.

well dangit.. I was hoping ariels sword would be passed someday from fighter to fighter.... but I guess that won't be happening... although.. the sword STILL is a nice prize IMO... maybe wicht could maybe wave the rules this time.. but I doubt he will.......

I had hoped that the Tournament of the Frog threads can clear this up, but it seems that the Armor of the Frog had no powers at that time, being only a real item.

I think the rules are pretty clear. If the sword passes to someone of a lower rank it loses some of its powers forever. Forever however being relative. It is still a real item and can therefore gain new powers through the expenditure of yen just as any other item can.

Contestants should notice that if they already have 1 item, if they win, they will have to choose between the two.

The reason for the rules Rathan is quite simple, it prevents fighters from using weapons that are massively overpowered for their rank and prevents people with lots of yen from willy-nilly setting up weapon factories. I think it is fair enough as is and don't really see a need to wave the rules.

I think Rathan's concern was more the temporary nature of the powers of the given/won item, but I could be wrong. Hey, eve if it would loose all it's powers, I'd still be happy to win it. :)
