A Question About Wish

There's been some debate in my group about the experience cost for casting wish. The way its worded one half says, is that you only pay the experience cost if the spell you want duplicated has one. The other half says that the experience cost is everytime the spell is cast. Does anyone out there know which it is?

Thanks.

You pay an XP cost every time you cast it.

5000 XP is the minimum. If you duplicate some other effect that costs more than that, you pay the higher amount instead.

Wish:

3.0

...When a wish duplicates a spell that has an XP cost, the character must pay 5,000 XP or that cost, whichever is more...

3.5

...XP Cost: The minimum XP cost for casting wish is 5,000 XP...

The 3.5 rule is simple a clarified version of the 3.0 rule.

FWIW, Miracle works differently and can be cast with no XP cost, but also is absolutely subject to the whim of the gods (aka DM).

Right, and remember: Technically, an evil miracle is still a miracle.
