A Question for Resurrection Connoisseurs

Agreed. This is the pinnacle of PC spell power. The spell says "...can even provide a new body if the original no longer exists, in which case you must speak the creature's name." [emphasis mine]

If the barbarian player was role-playing his character accordingly with the aforementioned head long charge, then I would rule that upon casting the spell, and speaking the barbarian's name, the original body disintegrates, and the barbarian "...then appears in an unoccupied space you choose within 10 feet of you."

That is how I would rule it, or even leave the body, it just now has no soul to match it (no raise dead or speak with dead, etc.), especially since True Ressurection is a level nine, and those spells are supposed to do truly reality warping things.

How big is the dungeon here? Locate object + dimension door is a pretty powerful combo for getting the body back.

You could also send a familiar or tiny servant out to scout.

As others have said, your DM's ruling is certainly defensible based on RAW, but others have also said, True Resurrection is a 9th level spell and arguably should not be less powerful in what is sort of a corner case.

That said, it does seem like you have given up sort of easily on recovering the body. Even though you cannot scry on the body directly, you could certainly attempt to scry on the salamander and/or any other creature that was in the encounter. That might even give you more info on the layout of the unexplored dungeon regions than just looking a corpse, since the view would move with the creature. As others have noted, you probably have plenty of other tools (spells and abilities) available to you to undertake a stealth mission. But it's just a suggestion, not wanting to tell you how to play.
