a question of xenophobia (ashley, wes, steve- go away!)

What if they looked like the local equivalent of the heads on easter island?
Either worship them as saviours/demigods/etc.
Or possibly try to kill them as evil overlords returned.

IMO; pity, hatred, smug superiority or fear are all possible answers.

How 'civilised' are these humanoids?

Do they not know about humans or are just unlikely to have ever seen one?

There are 14 places they could run into large collections of humanoids. and they run the gamut.

most have heard of them, but few would have really seen one. i have tried to account for a wide range there.

how ya been al?

Sounds good - was also wondering what the technology/magic levels are like? Reckon that would make a difference as well.

I guess some part depends on what they've heard about the interlopers and how 'naturally zenophobic' they are.

I been a little stressed! Trying to change jobs, buy a house, deal with splitting up flatmates and run a DnD Campaign - Keeps me on my toes. :) How about you?

Got to run. People to collect! Catch you later.

i will be running a new campaign in my homebrew this saturday night.

i will spare the long storya nd just explain that the humanoid races of this continent have rarely seen humans. very few have left the boundaries of their smallish state.

the players will be guiding their characters out into the unknown, and eventually running into the first humanoids they have seen.

can anyone provide me any fun, funny, or tragic responses that would come from the various humanoid races upon seeing their first human?

To take a bit from your first response... instead of piles of corpses, how about something bad happens in a town - or several things go wrong - well dries up, chieftain's first child dies suddenly, some cows die mysteriously, no rain for the crops in the rainy season, etc... anything bad that happens will be blamed on the newcomers/humans.

Or, just the opposite... maybe the chieftain's wife (or wives) was having trouble getting pregnant and soon after the PCs get to town, his wife (or wives) find themselves with child.

Since you did say it was a state, I am assuming at least a modest level of civilization. The humans, even if they get a good reaction, may not be allowed out after dark, and male humans socializing with local females will be dealt with harshly.
