A question regarding Entangle

The spell description of "entangle" (PHB 227) states:

"Grasses, weeds, bushes and even trees wrap, twist and entwine about creatures in the area or those that enter the area, holding them fast and causing them to be entangled...."

The description of the "entangled" condition (PHB 308) states:

"Being entangled impedes movement bot does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force...."

Does this mean that a creature that fails its save vs. the Entangle spell is rendered immobile or is it just reduced to half speed?

Later in the entangle spell there is the following sentence:

"The creature can break free and move half its normal movement speed by using a full-round action to make a DC 20 strength check or a DC 20 escape artist check."

Does this mean

A: If the check succeeds, the creature is no longer entangled and can move up to half its movement speed in the same round
b: If the check succeeds the creature is no longer entangled and can move at half its normal movement speed in the next round (unless it fails the save and is re-entangled)

"Being entangled impedes movement bot does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force...."

Those plants being used in the entangle spell *are* anchored to an immobile object -- the ground.

Failed save on entangle = cannot move.
Made save on entangle, or broke free / escaped = can move at half speed.

There's your answer.

They way it reads I believe A is the correct way to interpret it.
Basically its saying for your full round action you get to 1) not be entagled, and 2) move up to half your normal movement.

On the next round if you didnt get out of the entagling area you have to make a reflex save again.

Once upon a time, I thought the 1st-level Psion power Entangling Ectoplasm was overpowered. I had assumed that the spell description of the Entangle spell was just the Entangled condition. It's not-the spell inflicts the condition, plus other effects as detailed in the spell description; the power only inflicts the condition. As you've noticed, it's a big difference ...

Thanks for the answers!

To sum up: If a creature fails its save vs. the Entangle spell it is rendered immobile. If the creatures successfully breaks free with a DC 20 Strength check or escape artist check, it can move up to half its speed as part of the same full-round action that it used to break free.
