A real challenge: Which 5 RPG books?

All systems:

1. Shadowrun
2. PHB
3. DMG
4. MM
5. Earthdawn maybe.

D&D only
1. MM
2. some meg-adventure (RtToEE, Banewarrens, etc.)
3. Complete Book of Spells (or whatever its called, the one with tons of OGL spels in it.
4. Complete Warrior
5. Psionics Handbook 3.5 if its balanced, another mega-adventure if it isn't (in case we're there for a long time).

1) Mutants & Masterminds
2) Mutants & Masterminds: Freedom City
3) Mutants & Masterminds: Crooks
4) Mutants & Masterminds Annual #1
5) Mutants & Masterminds: [Slot left open for hopefully upcoming Meta-4 setting)

I really am more and more convinced that this is the only game system I'll ever use again as a GM.

To play the game, D20 only:

1) Monster Manual
2) Silver Age Sentinels D20
3) Silver Age Setninels: Shields of Justice
4) Spycraft
5) D20 Modern

<Edit> Oops. Just noticed it was supposed to be D&D only in the second list. Um... I think that would have to be the Monster Manual, City of Freeport, and that would be it. I don't really use much of anything else.

Wombat: Another Skyrealms of Jorune fan! COOL!

For me:

1) The Riddle of Steel
2) Skyrealms of Jorune
3) Ars Magica
4) DC Heroes
5) Godlike/Wild Talents

I wouldnt go D20 route; too many books, to little book slots. :)

I was going to put down the Amber Diceless RPG, but its so easy to remember I would not need the game book, hence saving me a slot for something else. :)

Okay not limited to D&D, which 5 RPG books would you have on your desert island?
1. DMG
2. PHB
3. MM
4. Mutants & Masterminds
5. Midnight

For the D&D freaks among us... here's another list 5 books (D&D related only although any edition) and you can have the PHB and DMG (of one edition) for free (but not the MM).
1. MM
2. Mutants & Masterminds
3. Freedom City MnM setting guide
4. Midnight
5. Minions of Shadow

Non-D&D:
1) Exalted
2) Mage Revised
3) Ars Magica 4
4) Buffy RPG
5) Paranoia (always wanted to try this)

Only D&D:
1) 3.5e MM
2) Manual of the Planes
3) MC's Arcana Unearthed
4) Midnight Setting
5) Fiend Folio? Book of Vile Darkness? I dunno...

-- N

1. Call of Cthulhu (BRP) 5th ed
2. Talislanta 3rd ed
3. Ars Magica 3rd ed
4. Fading Suns
5. Vampire: The Masquerade 3rd ed

With free PhB and DMG:

1. MM 3.5
2. SW d20 revised
3. Babylon 5 d20
4. Midnight
5. Manual of the Planes

As you can see in the second chart, I went for campaign settings as
I can spend my "island time" making up the rest. :D

Okay not limited to D&D, which 5 RPG books would you have on your desert island?

1. Feng Shui (one rulebook cover the modern, future, historic and mythical oriental settings.)
2. Call of Cthuhlu (not the D20 edition)
3. Cyberpunk 2020
4. Basic D&D Rules Cyclopedia
5. Traveller: New Era

3rd ed D&D immediately presents a problem as even basic rules are spread over 3 books so just because of limited options it doesn't get a look in on my list.

For the D&D freaks among us... here's another list 5 books (D&D related only although any edition) and you can have the PHB and DMG (of one edition) for free (but not the MM).

1. Scarred Lands:Ghelspad Campaign book
2. Creature Collection I (hey, I like it, even with its errors)
3. Creature Collection II
4. Hornsaw Forest sourcebook.
5. Divine and Defeated

OK If I am allowed to fool with this a bit

D&D Cyclopedia
D&D Companion Binder (this is a big binder full of the stuff for D&D that has already been printed Creature Crucibles, Immortals etc)
Beyond Human (unisystem)
BESM
Something else

OK for D&D
PHB 3.5
DMG 3.5

#1 Arcana Unearthed (probably)
#2 Monster Manual
#3 Cruchy Spells (maybe that FFE book)
#4 Crunchy Feats
#5 Another good monster book or maybe Gloriana (if that was out)

I'm not sure I understand exactly what's being asked here, but here's my lists:

RPGs
  1. Call of Cthulhu (d20 not BRP!)
  2. d20 Star Wars Revised
  3. d20 Modern
  4. Megatraveller Boxed Set (OK, that may be cheating! :))
  5. Werewolf Revised

D&D with PHB and DMG as freebies
  1. MM 3.5
  2. Monsternomicon
  3. Book of Fiends
  4. Oriental Adventures
  5. Manual of the Planes

Open Game:
1. Mutants and Masterminds
2. Angel RPG [Same system as Buffy, but the included crunch is better.]

D&D Only:
1. MM 3.5
2. Psionics Handbook
3. Mindscapes

5. Manual of the Planes

1. The d20 How to Make Oars out of Sand
