A *Really* High Powered D&D Game. Would you play in it? How can I up the power ante?

Normally, your best use of Gestalt is to compensate for a weakness, or to otherwise cover your base class's flaws.

[snippy good examples]

If you give LA on one side, expect that you'll only see LA on one side (as soon as the players figure this out).

As for the 1/2 of the gestalt for a +LA I don't think allowing the Half-Dragon/Celestial/Dire/Horrid/Vampiric/Lycanthropic/Psionic/Paragon Solar was the intention. More like throw Lizardman or Centaur into one half until you've paid off your level debt. Or maybe I'm wrong, but I hope not... ^^;
Andor, you basically hit the nail on the head for what I'm going for - not multi-templated, massively muscled, grotesque balls of madness, but the chance to play a Duergar, or an Aasimar, or a Thri-Kreen or whatever. Templates, I'd still disallow - they would get too silly, as Nifft has outlined above (and I've never been keen on players getting templates anyways).

cheers,
