If this campaign used OD&D rules instead, what would your answers be?
1. yes. but it would involve intrigue and feudal play. more wargame like. say... chainmailesque. with a few dungeon crawls by the lord and his advisors to defeat uberbaddies

2. toughen it up by opening up planar rifts. cut off the clerics from their gods directly. or make spells harder to get. interruptions of the way the world works due to the rifts

3. for over the top action. have a god die. and his powers dwindle/ be absorbed by magic items or beings on the world. something similar to birthright

What would the setting be? Are we trying to start a rebellion in the Abyss or assault the Far Realm? If you want epic PCs you need an epic setting.

Absoutely. Just taking these PCs through a mundane D&D campaign would be a bit dull in the long term - but something designed so only these epic heroes can save the day would be quite cool.

I'd love to hear more of what you ar trying to say here, sure.

Normally, your best use of Gestalt is to compensate for a weakness, or to otherwise cover your base class's flaws.

E.g.: Wizard//Ranger -- full BAB, good skills, all good saves, Evasion, etc. But at any given level, he's NOT a better Ranger or Wizard than he otherwise would have been. His attack bonus is the best it could be, but no better.

On the other side, consider a Phrenic / Half-Celestial / Half-Fiend / Pixie // Wizard. He's got a ridiculous LA, but he's also got a ridiculous Int bonus. He is a better Wizard than the Ranger//Wizard, because he has more spells and a much higher Save DC.

Now consider a Half-Dragon / Half-Ogre / Half-Celestial / Mineral Warrior / (etc). // Fighter Guy. Normally, he could have Rage or some extra Feats, but now he has more strength. He's a better Fighter than he otherwise could have been at the same level.

If you give LA on one side, expect that you'll only see LA on one side (as soon as the players figure this out).

Cheers, -- N

I wouldn't touch a campaign like this with a 10' pole, although I consider gaming above 12th level high-powered so take that for what it's worth.

Edit: I take that back. If the other players were really hot models, I would probably play.

Ability Scores will all start at zero, with a 90 point buy, one-for-one.

Open books: all races, classes, feats, spells et al will be availiable (no Generic classes, however)

A Feat every level.

Now, a few questions:

!. Would you play in this? Why or why not? Does it sound like fun to you?

2. How can I make this more powerful, and still be a ball of fun? What other rules could I bring into this?

3. What else would you do, in this game?

cheers,
--N

This could be fun for a whil as you could play some really broken combos. Yes, I would play. It sound like a way to get to play the top end of power gaming.

Play the monsters with a zeal that if pc's screw up, they die.

Card laid, card played concept. My character would try to be the ultimate at the classes that he takes.

Sounds like fun. I would watch what books you allow.

You might up the Powerlevel a bit by saying 1 half of the gesalt is a D&D class and the other is an Iron Heros class.

As for the 1/2 of the gestalt for a +LA I don't think allowing the Half-Dragon/Celestial/Dire/Horrid/Vampiric/Lycanthropic/Psionic/Paragon Solar was the intention. More like throw Lizardman or Centaur into one half until you've paid off your level debt. Or maybe I'm wrong, but I hope not... ^^;
