I live in Singapore and frequent the odd karaoke bar or two... so my vote is for young, drunk Malay guys "shrieking" to hard rock songs. Oh, what a noise....

I always thought of shriekers as sounding like the Screamers from the old Atari/Amiga game Dungeon Master - a sort of annoying repeated chirp that would be very shrill up close.

Ever seen the movie Dumb And Dumber? In the van one of the characters gives us a moment of the most annoying sound in the world. That is what a shrieker sounds like.
Or have a wife? Record her as she is shrieking at you to get the lawn done, etc, etc. That could also qualify as the sound a shrieker makes.

My players hate it when I use shriekers, because usually the first sign there is a shrieker in the area is me activating a rape alarm under the table.
It's this very high pitched, piercing, oscillating whistle. It uses a compressed air chamber to create a high-pitched whistle at about 130 decibels. It will totally blown an eardrum out if you set it off next to someone's head.
You can hear what one sounds like in this clip, in which a dude uses one to wake up a friend (which is super mean). In real life, these whistles are far louder than this clip might lead you to believe.
