A simple idea to make EN World even better...

Not my idea but enthusiastically shared from Joeskythedungeonbrawler’s Blog. Warning the below link is in all CAPS and somewhat hard to read I have attempted to repost it a few replies down so the message does not get lost in the delivery.

Here is a link: HOUSE RULE FOR OSR AND NOT-OSR GAMES + PEOPLE (BLOGS « Joeskythedungeonbrawler’s Blog

Basically the idea is if you make a post that is pretty much only an argument or telling other entities how/what they should do you must provide a cool gaming idea/resource right after or have the post considered moot.

The irony of course is much like Joesky at the time I have no good ideas to share

Hmmm... you are right. Perhaps I can repost it here with all due credit.

(This is not mine it is from: HOUSE RULE FOR OSR AND NOT-OSR GAMES + PEOPLE (BLOGS « Joeskythedungeonbrawler’s Blog I have altered the original with regards to all caps and some spelling.)

If you make a post blog that is only an argument and when I read it, it makes a blahblah blah sound, you have to give me something free at the end: new cool rule, or a monster(s), or some spells, or magic items or regular items that are different, or even better a map - And it can't be a link just to someplace else in your blog, it has to be new and cool.

If you don't do that you automatically lose the argument and the other guy is declared a winner, which means you just wrote 5000 words for nothing!

This also counts for argument responses and talkbacks and comments that exceed 25 words.

This post is excepted, because I had too many PBR Tallboys last night...I got nothing right now...

I guess that you're trying to say (in a round-about way) that you're tired of uncreative whiners whining and not being creative? And the best way to either curb whining or to inspire creativity is to reward whiners who throw a few lines of creative on the end of their whines?

I can't say that I'm very inspired by this.

OH AND IF YOU FALL IN LAVA, YOU DON'T DIE IF YOU SAVE <--- my creative house rule: it is original, do not steal it.

That is where the spirit of the idea becomes important.

As a ideal of adding creative things you think are cool and good to the community to help balance the posts that argue or rant. Making EnWorld even more creative and supportive of the shared positive imaginations we all game with.

Do you honestly think that is a cool, innovative idea about lava that adds value to ENWorld?

Some game bloggers, and OSR bloggers in particular, seem to have really thin skins when it comes to any sort of conflict or disagreement. There's a rational debate going on (Is there such a thing as an OSR? Is it good?), and a half dozen or so OSR blogs have to pull up their skirts and cry that everyone should get along and stop talking about things that matter to other people.

Here's my counter: If reading blogs/posts that say things you don't agree with bothers you, stop doing it. Making and publishing materials for RPGs as a reaction is optional.

Otherwise, though, I get a kick out of Joesky's blog (hi Ron).

Its rude to just post bad.
Take that sad post, and make it better
Remember to post something from the heart
Then the website will be much better

Hey you, don't be a troll
We're all pals here, posting whatever
the minute he can't get under your skin
Then the website will be much better

And anytime you feel the pain, hey just refrain
Don't carry ENWorld upon your shoulders
For well you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making this world a little colder

Na na na, na na nana na na.

I'll bite if the original blogger would stop typing in all caps.

My house rule: Type in all caps and you automatically lose the arguement.

Seriously, I can't take anyone seriously that types in all caps.

Those that can post in song? They win every arguement ;)

That's a bunch of inaccurate assumptions.

1/ That criticism isn't of value in itself. It can be, even if perhaps whatever shows up in the blogs YOU read isn't.

2/ That the best way to balance low-value criticism is with (presumably) high-value "house rules", stuffed into the same (probably unrelated) post.

3/ That trying to force people to be creative will make them creative. It didn't work on YOU, after all: you've been dry both times you posted in this thread.

Do you honestly think that is a cool, innovative idea about lava that adds value to ENWorld?
Compared to the idea that everyone who posts a negative opinion needs to simultaneously post a "cool tax"? Yes, I think my idea is brilliant, and I look for its incorporation in 4.5e.
