A simple idea to make EN World even better...

I think the basic sentiment is a good one, though the implementation is a bit off imho. Maybe if it were an official rule on a newly established forum, it would have some interesting impact?

It's certainly nice when people contribute useful info, encouragement, humor, etc, and not just crap on everything. But I don't know that it's really wise (or even desired) to make those contributions in a debate thread, but as long as whoever's being a d-bag in a particular thread is contributing positively elsewhere, I'm cool. And if he's not, I suppose that's what "ignore" is for.

On a tangential note, I'm thrilled to have discovered Mr. Joesky's blog. It rocks. When I read it, I hear Macho Man Randy Savage yelling in my face, imploring me to
Macho Man Randy Savage said:
KILLT HINGS AND T AKE THERE STUFF, OH YEAH!!!1!! (sic)

Oddly, I find this... inspiring.

That's a bunch of inaccurate assumptions.

1/ That criticism isn't of value in itself. It can be, even if perhaps whatever shows up in the blogs YOU read isn't.

2/ That the best way to balance low-value criticism is with (presumably) high-value "house rules", stuffed into the same (probably unrelated) post.

3/ That trying to force people to be creative will make them creative. It didn't work on YOU, after all: you've been dry both times you posted in this thread.

Compared to the idea that everyone who posts a negative opinion needs to simultaneously post a "cool tax"? Yes, I think my idea is brilliant, and I look for its incorporation in 4.5e.

Cheers, -- N

Your negativity is a bit overwhelming but I am glad you dropped by.

Honestly, this is something I aspire to. Not necessarily on each post, but, if I find myself getting dragged (probably the wrong word - leaping in with both feet? :) ) into various *ahem*discussions*ahem* and not posting anything really positive, I really try to start a thread that is more constructive.

For example, after spending wayyyy too much time dueling dictionaries in a couple of threads, I posted the pacing thread in an attempt to get some constructive discussion going on.

I also find that adding a few names to my ignore list helps me with my compulsive need to argue. There are just some people that I cannot discuss things with - it will always turn into an arguement. So, "Ignore User" is a much, MUCH better solution.

OH AND IF YOU FALL IN LAVA, YOU DON'T DIE IF YOU SAVE <--- my creative house rule: it is original, do not steal it.

You're doing it wrong. Everyone knows if you fall in lava, you die (No Save).

Your way is broken, nerfs lava and gives death the shaft.

And it's too anime and plays like a videogame.

B-)

Basically the idea is if you make a post that is pretty much only an argument or telling other entities how/what they should do you must provide a cool gaming idea/resource right after or have the post considered moot.

So what you're saying is, write some lame fluff, then fill up the other 98% of it with crunch that I'll probably never use. This sounds pretty much like how all of the D&D sourcebooks have been written for the past 10 years. ;)

---Start Quote---

If you don't do that you automatically lose the argument and the other guy is declared a winner, which means you just wrote 5000 words for nothing!

---End Quote---

Winning? Losing? Sure I know there are people who see posting on forums as a thing where you win or lose, but me I'm just sharing my views when I post. Sometimes I will be swayed by an argument, but I certainly don't feel like I'm losing. Or winning for that matter.

But hey, cool ideas are cool ideas. I read about a house rule where in D&D4e skill checks were changed to being a minor action, instead of a standard. I think that's a pretty cool house rule and will try it out.

Phew ... it'd be really awkward to have to come up with cool stuff every time I post. Nah, that's not my thing ... ;)

Its rude to just post bad.
Take that sad post, and make it better
Remember to post something from the heart
Then the website will be much better

Hey you, don't be a troll
We're all pals here, posting whatever
the minute he can't get under your skin
Then the website will be much better

And anytime you feel the pain, hey just refrain
Don't carry ENWorld upon your shoulders
For well you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making this world a little colder

Na na na, na na nana na na.
This rocks, unfortunatly I must spread xp around before giving anymore.

As for the OP, no-one wins or looses arguments on the Internet there never anyway to prove anyside, though occasionally here people may admit that they have changed their position. If the mods started to enforce the proposed rule I reckon they would quickly loose subscribers besides I suspect they have enough on their plate without adjudicating who is winning and loosing threads in the forums.
