Trailers for upcoming SF movie <i>A Sound of Thunder</i>, based on a Ray Bradbury short story, have been posted online. (Quicktime: <A href="http://raincloud.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/asoundofthunder/trailer/trailer_hi/trailer_MSTR.mov">large</a>, <A href="http://raincloud.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/asoundofthunder/trailer/trailer_med/trailer_MSTR.mov">medium</a> and <a href="http://raincloud.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/asoundofthunder/trailer/trailer_lo/trailer_MSTR.mov">small</a>).

<i>A Sound of Thunder</i> stars Ben Kingsley and Ed Burns. The story revolves around time travel safari that goes wrong, with (predictably) disastrous consequences for the world.

Looks silly, but fun.

Question: Is it required by law that all action/thriller/suspense movie trailers have to follow this pattern - slow and dramatic text buildup, ominous music, cool stuff, more cool stuff, more cool stuff, really nifty stuff, movie title, pause, SCARY FLASH OF COOL STUFF (surprise!), and then the credits?

I mean, I see this in everything now. It's getting tedious. Almost as bad as that voice that seems to be with half the trailers in the world. There was this great comedian who made fun of him with a comedy sketch. It has the cool voice talking about what sounds like a summer blockbuster starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but then you find out the movie's about a guy who sells tortillas.

Janeane Garofalo used to have a bit in her standup act describing how half of all movie trailers begin:

(cupping hand over mic for resonating voice)

"In a world..."

Yes the Bradbury short story is a classic. Trailer does remind me of that Discovery channel show that predicted what future animals would be like though.

Back when she was actually funny? It must be a rule that when you can't entertain you have to become outspoken and obnoxious about political issues. Whoopi Goldberg being another fine paragon of this rule. Besides Pablo Francisco's bit is much funnier. "Action... Get Down. More Action... Get Down Again." I think I have that recorded somewhere, I will have to pull it out.

It looked interesting enough that I'll go see it. It seems like a classic way to pad out a short to-the-point short story into two hours of movie, but in a fun way.
