A thank you to some PDF publishers

But for the many who do make their pdfs functional for copying and pasting, I'd like to say thank you as well. It is a valuable function and greatly aids my games, whether copying over a statblock for a monster/NPC, the exact text of rules for discussion, or flavor descriptions I can use directly in my email and pbp games, copying and pasting allows me to use the game material easier.

I agree with the OP.

Just a quick question on this topic, though: does WotC allow copying & pasting from their PDFs? What about printing?

I always avoided theirs, due to the frankly laughable prices, but at the moment they're almost reasonable. Almost. So I thought I'd pick up maybe one, or even two, provided they have copy/paste/print functionality inbuilt.

Yea? Nay?

I've only bought WotC's ones when they've been on sale.

Full clean copy and print functionality. I got spell compendium for this feature alone and it has been very useful (well the search function is actually awesome as well).

If you own the PDF and want to have a printed copy available for the session for personal use (group included) then I think thats OK, no breach of Copy rights.

But yer posting it to another is BAD!

Eh, depends on what he's posting and where.

Full text on a web site or PtP server? Totally uncool.

On the other hand, the specific example he listed, providing feats to players, is something I'm ok with, and I think most people would as well.

I mean, if he stripped out the feat's flavor text/description (which might be product identity), and added a OGL at the last page of every feat selection, it would be 100% by the rules.

So I personally don't see the value in making someone jump through hoops to provide a player with a few feats.

This is a bit specific, but hopefully will help others...

Some PDFs are listed as everything allowed under security, but when I try to copy and paste (or even save as...text), it comes out gibberish.

An example of this are the Thieves' World conversions for True20 at "http://true20.com/support/". I just want some of those for use in my setting. (But yeah, I have the TW PB/GM books, too ;) )

---

Back on topic, other then the $4.95 old TSR stuff, being able to cut & paste at will is really nice.

Being able to C'n'P is a godsend for online play... I just couldn't imagine typing all the stuff I would need during a session ;)

Yeah... and WOTC always says the price is because of paper costs... :P
