Howdy,
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a website service to build a site for my campaign? I want something that is easy to use and I don't mind paying a few bucks a month to keep it going. I am a novice and just want soemthing simple. I do not care for Homestead or Yahoo. Thanks for your help.

Well...

I use Stargate Web Hosting and have been super happy with their service. Prices start at around $4 a month and go up from there. You can even get a domain registered with some of the packages, if that's something you're interested in.

If you're looking for someone to build your site for you, I can't help ya there. :p

in regards to "building" your website, i would recommend learning some very basic HTML. it's not that hard, and you can probably learn it within a day. all you really need to know is how to format text, insert images, and create hyperlinks. once you know those basics then you can build something simple then move on from there.

I missed the build part the first time around. To get a professional to build the site for you, you're looking at a lot of money. I would probably charge half rate for an rpg fan site, just to be nice. This would be 22.50 an hour.

www.godaddy.com for domain registration ($8)
www.ripplehost.com for hosting ($5)

13/year and you are ready to go. It's a good personal account type place. You only get 1.5 GB so don't start hosting the world, but it would be perfect for family/RPG/personal webpage.

Best deal in town..trust me.

If I as a professional would give you a nice price/quote it would look something like this:

$100 base + $25 / hour
(normal rate is $200 base + $25 / hour)

for a fan site I could prolly skip the inital cost and charge you only for the time I work on the site.

Or in some occasions when I know exactly what is supposed to be on the site I charge a set sum for the whole job.

Only on a few occasions I do free work but it happens, depends on the project and how much time I have to dedicate to it.

For cheap services, cannot really help you there :( most of us web-guys get very few jobs these days so the few jobs that are out there usually gets a very high price-tag.

netfirms.com has a pretty nice plan for something small. Be warned, though...I'm starting to outgrow their initial plan already. :)

For building the site, I'd use MS Word or FrontPage, if you got 'em (at least Word is fairly common). Nothin' fancy, but something functional anyway. :)

I personally use My Site Space Pro.

http://www.mysitespace.com

$40 a year, and it offers 150M of space, 4G Bandwidth, MySQL, php, etc. They also have an excellent support staff, who are always ready, willing, and patient to help a newbie out with their site. Although they do not do it for you, they will be willing to walk you through some of the steps to get you started. There is also an extremely helpful forum there to help with any questions you may have. You have total control, with no ads.:)

With some basic Html, java, and css tutorials from these sites you'll be on your way:

http://www.webreference.com/html/

http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp

http://www.webteacher.com/javascript/

I use all three for my site, and although it is not the most professional of all sites, I think it looks good, simple for a visitor to use, and easy on the eyes. Out of the 150M of storage space I've only used about 25, and I've got about 100 pages, about half with pics.

I'm sure some of the webmasters in this forum will be willing to throw some hints and advice your way too.

Good Luck, and good campaigning.

If your looking for someone to build the site for you, I can say that, after thinking of hiring a professional, and looking around at pricing, the offer that Liquide made is an excellent one, and if I was looking for a webmaster, I'd jump on that offer.
