A Whole Bunch of Zombie RPG Questions

How much do the AFMBE books go for?

The expansion books go for between $20 and $24, with the main book going for $30.

Which, really, are some of the most reasonable prices in the industry, I think. I'm not sure why the original poster thinks they're unreasonably priced.

And there's even an adventure you can buy online for five bucks.

I appreciate the recommendations for Year of the Zombie from the above people (Thanks, guys, it means a lot to me!) and am chiming in here.

If you want a long running, serious zombie campaign, I'd recommend the following:

Year of the Zombie
Blood & Brains
Blood & Guts 2 series. (There is mass combat rules in there too)

I'm willing to answer any questions you have about YotZ, but I will warn you, it's the dark, gritty, "realistic" setting and not recommended for everyone.

I have no problems with $30 for a book, but the AFMBE book, though, if I remember correctly, it clocked in at 200+ pages was also small, so those pages contained about 125-150 normal sized pages worth of material.

For $20 more, I just bought midnight 2e, which comes in at 400 full-sized (read 8.5x11) pages. Was AFMBE 1e even 8x10? It seems to me that it wasn't.

EDIT:

Ah yes... current AFMBE... 256 pages, 9.5x7.5 inches.

That really isn't all that much book.

Unfortunately, while their initial relase held promise (even though the book seemed overpriced) their release of the Zombie wrestling supplement (as their second release, mind you) totally turned me off to the system.
You're letting one supplement turn you off an entire line? That's goofy. All of them -- Dungeons & Zombies, Enter the Zombie, One of the Living -- have been excellent. There is no better zombie game. End of story.

And one cannot overlook the perk that Year of the Zombie will soon be pretty seriously supported with adventures and expansions (because Ralts is a writing Machine!) While Independance Day Massacre is currently the only supplimental release, Ralts has a stack of them in various stages of completion that have to be as tall as he is. :)

But, I'm a little biased too. I was in the original playtest, wrote one of the PrCs, and was lead artist.

But after 2 years in development, I think we ironed the bugs out. :)

(And I'd like to second Ralts' thanks those above for their kind, not-involved-with-the-project words for YotZ)

There is a 2e Ravenloft module that I ran in a 12 hour welcome to ravenloft game that worked really well. I forget the name but it was something like night of the living dead. It is in a bayou domain run by a zombie lord.

The adventure you're thinking of is Night of The Walking Dead. I have to agree with Voadam in that it is really well written DND adventure for something like level 3-5. It was great fun and one of the most memorable games we played in.

As for more modern fare I would have to go with Year of The Zombie. I bought a copy and spliced out a few tidbits of the PDF to give to my friends as a taste and they're really clamouring for a change in my D20 modern game :] . The product is well put together and gives a comprehensive overview on how to run a modern zombie game in any format. If there is a zombie flick that you want to duplicate, YoTZ can do it.

All my glowing praise for YoTZ must be put in check as I haven't seen All Flesh Must Be Eaten. I also haven't read RPG Objects material of Blood and Brains but as always I haven't really encountered a bad product from them.

EDIT: Beaten. Twice!

Night of the Walking Dead . REQUIRED zombie module. Needs two tweeks:

1.) Hyskosa prophecy cut out; and,
2.) Add 'trapped in house' scenario to finale, prior to dash to cemetary.

Beauty.

Thanks,
