A Word About the Post Icons

Hello all. Russ has given me permission to go through this forum and add a post icon to all the posts here. Of the new post icons I made, more than half were with this forum in mind.

It is possible to sort threads by post icon. If everyone uses post icons it will be possible to look up all the new spells, races, classes and whatever folks have posted here. Also, it's easier on the server to sort by post icon than to search by a keyword like spells - at least in terms of processor time spent on the request.

I will happily add more post icons to the current list if the 30 or so I've made so far aren't sufficient. Just drop me a line or post a reply to this thread. But for post icons to be truly useful - EVERY POST NEEDS ONE.

If you don't like the post icon I chose for your thread feel free to change it. Sometimes a post will be suitably placed under a multitude of icons. As a rule I'll add a setting specific icon over a topic icon - so if you start your thread saying "My Forgotten Realms spells" I'm going to make give it a FR post icon. That said, I'd rather let you make the choice in the first place.

PS to Stealth Stylesheet users The stealth stylesheet doesn't display post icons (or any other graphics for that matter). If you use it please suggest a post icon in brackets [like this].

It will take some getting used to. Is the Stealth Stylesheet the only way to turn off post icons? I like the standard style, but I am not too enthusiastic about all those icons.

Since the posticon selection no more use a big table, but a drop-down, couldn't it (the dropdown) be added to the stealth-style New Thread page?

I'm having trouble sorting by post icon...did I fail my spot check or is it only for community supporters?

It's not more self-explanatory for a CS than for a mere RU.

The same thing also happened at NKL (the penultimate version, not the current one). They said it was possible to sort by posticons, but if it's possible, it's not through a link. Maybe through some URL line editing hokey pokey.

Let me get this straight. Which of these are you doing: All of the 60,133 posts in the forum? All of the 5,531 threads in the forum? All 256 of the threads created within the last month? All of the threads on the 1st page?

Are you going to continue to do this after your first set? Are the post icons going to become a rule for this forum, and if so who will enforce it and how?

Yes, every thread - not every post.

As to changing post icons, any user with edit permissions for the post can change the icon.
