I use AdSubtract (www.adsubtract.com) -- there's a free version you can install.

I switched my browser from IE to Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org). It has a feature built-in that stops unwanted windows from popping up (you can tell it to pretty much prevent any activity from happening if you didn't initiate it).

I use the free version of Popup Stopper -- seems to work pretty well. I only wish I could identify specific sites where I don't want it to block popups (they're few and far between, but they're important, so I have to double-click the icon in the system tray to turn it off or control-click the link if I know it's going to generate a popup I want).

But it seem like I didn't express myself correctly.

By the popups I meant those that come from the Messenger service. Next generation spam. Gotta love XP. Eh.

But anyway, I disabled the service so my troubles are over

You figured out the best way there. Just keep the messenger service off or put yourself behind a firewall.

Do a google search for 'Spybot' and it comes up as the #1 site. (can't recall the URL offhand)

AdAware is probably something you're going to want to run too - gets rid of a lot of spyware files on your comp.

If you hold down the CTRL key when you click on a link that you want to open in a new window, it will without having to disable Popup Stopper.
