AARRRGGH!! (Random gaming observation)

Why is it that when you have a five-hour game...

...in which four-and-a-half hours were fantastic, with almost everything you could have hoped for...

...and half an hour was lost to an in-character argument that went too far due to conflicting concepts and nobody's specific fault...

...it's that half hour that dominates your feelings and emotions about the game after the fact?

Bleah. It really was a great game, that one incident notwithstanding. Wish I (and others) felt better about it. :(

Edit: In case I wasn't clear, when I say "in-character dispute," I mean that the actual point of contention began in-character. It definitely involved some OOC emotions, however.

Better than the reverse...that's happened before.

I always like an in-character dispute that ends with a decapitation though. It's really funny once you get down the road a ways.

I think a party leader can help to avoid problems like this a lot of times...

Why are you complaining? It was all IN the game, in-character argument included. In the games I play in, half of the time is devoted to discussions that have nothing to do with the game itself.

We once had an in-character argument that lead to the deaths of two characters, another character arrested for one of the deaths, and a trial in which the player of the slain character played the prosecutor, the player of the arrested character played the defense attorney, and all other players not directly involved in the events served as the judicial tribunal.

While it was interesting, it was not as much fun as it might sound, and it led to some hard feelings that ultimately resulted in some of the players leaving the game.

Its a game, the main thing you have to remember with in character shouting matches is that its in character
if its personal attacks then its too much. After we pack up the books I usually have a good laugh with my other players/debater and assure that the heated fight was in character. if its out of character Im usually more calm with my discussions.

OOC emotions get tied in. But we're human....
