Abberations as NPCs - and I don't mean mindflayers

The hero Nafanua (LN Fiendish human Barbarian/Scorcerer/Summoner) has an unusal family tree in that her father is an Abberation

Specifically a Faamautoto (Samoan for Bloodclot) named Saleo Saveao created when his mother (the queen btw) aborted him and abandoned his body in a cave on the beach. The bloodclot however was fiendish and did not die instead it grew into a monstrous beast that looks like a large crimson placenta with six tentacles It grew and became feared as a man-eating monster, and is known to have devoured 2 of its younger brothers until the last one who was willing to recognise his older brothers preeminence as ruler of the island!

This abberation is about to come to the island the PCs live on seeking help to find his daughter (who has been captured by extra-dimensional 'aliens')

Now some questions
1- what type of abberation should this thing be?

2-what would you do to play up this things 'weirdness' but make it possibly for the PCs to interact with it

3 - what classes are appropriate for an abberation? - can they even gain class levels?

4 - has anyone used an abberation (one of the more unusual types ie not Mindflayers) as an NPC (or heaven forbid PC) before?

I recommend using a paragon fiendish (or half-fiend) otuyugh as a model--perhaps with human intelligence as well. As for class--if it is intelligent enough, I'd say wizard, or maybe sorcerer.

And may I just say--I'd love to hear more about your campaign...
