Now what about a Beholder's eye rays?

1/ Not spells;
2/ Not spell-like abilities;
3/ Single line-item.

Sounds like it could qualify (like the Fist of Thunder and Lightning), but it could also get split out (like spell-like abilities); DM's judgment, and level of malice, as most corner cases.

Given the lack of arguments for the other side, let's call this a victory for sanity, and affirm that there shall be no such thing as Ability Focus (Spells).

The ability to take Ability Focus (a single spell) is in the hands of the DM; there are no examples of it, nor is it officially ruled. I'd argue that a spell is not an ability (while a spell-like ability is), but that's just me.
