Unfortunately its fairly typical behaviour I think when characters reach levels 12+. Characters are meant to be the heroes (in most games) but it reaches a point when they see themselves as untouchable. Its the one major failing in a level based system.

I like to think that there are such things as political considerations in any campaign. Annoying most of the leadership in one's country might not be a healthy idea. After all, in most cases, there are always people more powerful than the heroes. Many of them likely have experience in putting down upstarts.

Or worse, the heroes may find that their regular enemies and their new ones have something in common: them.

Well, I'm back.
We had this minor little power out here in Plymouth, and I was booted from the Internet. (Of course, the Internet was booted, and the computers that control the internet were booted, and the companies that control the computers were booted, and ... )

Now that I'm back, thank you Leopold! I'll check out Nutkinland via the link. Thanks for providing it. :)

Ok, here's one for you, folks.
Two people, both with a + 65 Diplomacy (I don't have the thread URL) decide to get into an argument.
Pick an argument, any argument. It would make for interesting listening (all the viewers would first agree with one side, then all would agree with the other.)

Cthulu Claus? Hehe. Nice one, William! :)
I just hope Cthulu doesn't hear about that one.
And, by the way, it LOOKED like a Call of Cthulu game come into Real Life last night here in metropolitan Detroit.
We took the Spook Drive, and saw sights no living man or woman should ever witness.

Facing someone with +65 Diplomacy would be like when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli faced Saruman: "Dont let him speak!"

Anything would sound good and plausible coming from that person's mouth; if they would abuse their carte blanche and the king would be pissed off, it would only take a conversation to make him "see" why it was necessery to burn the villages. Heck, the character could probably convince the villagers why it was important to burn down their village ;)
