Yeah I was looking at the rules for gaining them during downtime, and then at how a lot of 5E pre-written campaigns are structured, and like, we have official and high-quality third-party campaigns where you go 1-10 or 1-15 in like, months, and even ignoring any eyerolls from some people on that, there's just no time to use the downtime rules, so something like that would be pretty useful - even that has the issue of equating the value of skill, tool and language. Just looking at the 5E I've played, which is quite a lot at this point (albeit mostly in the 1-12 level range, only a little above), skills are rolled about 4-10x as often as tool proficiencies, and languages can go entire campaigns without coming up - that said I'd say in general languages are more useful, in practice, than tool proficiencies.Yup. This is why I implemented the house rule that characters gain a skill proficiency, tool proficiency, or language every four levels.
