Let me preface that the AI games along with Perkins' other celebrity games played a significant part in me getting back in the game, so I have been a fan. That being said, I am sad to say that they have jumped the shark and gone from a real D&D game with some irreverent moments to an irreverent game with some D&D moments. The comedic moments no longer flow naturally but their constant attempts to insert comedy into EVERY moment has worn thin with me. I look at the Critical Role series as what the AI series used to be (great DM, players who actually take the game seriously WHILE having fun). Bottom line is that the AI game was hard to watch...and that makes me sad.

Uh? I came away very happy having watched it and felt that they've used more of the actual rules than they have in a while.

I enjoy Critical Role and AI because they are both creative games by creative individuals that make me laugh and I enjoy the story. I certainly don't watch either one for a perspective on the rules as written. They both run games that are heavily modified with House Rules. Rule of Fun definitely wins out in both of those games.
