Actual celtic / new age music not sound tracks.

Hey, Evenglare... is getting to Plantersville for the day doable for you? I'm serious about hanging around the big Renfest there, listening to some live music and picking up the stuff you like. You can't lose.

Plus: hot Texan chicks in chainmail bikinis, turkey legs and mead. They've been bringing people to Texas's Renfest for years, even folks who otherwise don't have much interest in that whole scene. ;)

gotta watch out for chainmail wrapped sausage. Scary stuff.

I'm going Nov 2nd or so for King's feast.

Loreena McKennit, can't go wrong.

I also favor Steeleye Span and John Renbourn.

Steeleye Span mixes some electric guitar and effects in with very old traditional British and Irish songs, which makes for a nicely tense atmosphere. John Renbourn is an instrumental genius.

This thread is very timely as I'm just started looking for game music myself.

In addition to many of the above suggestions, I'd like to throw in Faun. They're a German band, and do a lot of instrumentals. But since I don't know German, even the vocal tracks aren't distracting as ambient music. They've got a few sample tracks on their site ... Rani is going to be my default travelling track.

I would put in a recommendation for Altan if you want a more traditional Celtic feel.

I was lucky enough to see Altan at Cambridge folk festival this year, and second the recommendation.

Couldn't agree more, though whether it fits the bill quite I'm not sure. Everyone deserves a little Renbourne in their lives.

Also, Crumhorns FTW! :D

Enya
Clannad
Enigma
Chant (Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo)

That's as far as my music collection takes me. You might try a little chamber music tho. Not medieval but might be the sound you want.
