I HAD to get the version with the robed figure on the DMG (and the Ringlerun PHB) because my parents would have thought that was a demon (as I did, for a long time).

You might find some 1e books on Dragonsfoot, too.
I bought the .pdfs before WotC got weird of my 1e books and had them printed out and bound at Staples, so now I have the 1e books that are in pristine condition and don't get used, two sets of used and printed and bound pdfs to use for reference or a quick, impromptu game of 1e.
