in 224 of PHB (ad&d 2ed), the enchant iten spell say that "No magic placed on an item is permanent unless a permanency spell is used as a finishing touch. This always runs a 5% risk of draining 1 point of Constitution..."

BUT, in Permanency spell it say that "each permanency spell lowers the wizards Constitution by 1 point."

so, my question is if
A) the permanency spell give you a 5 % of loosing 1Con point, or
B)it always make u loose 1 Con point?

the greyhawk big and famous wizards must have like 5 or 6 points of constitution, if "B" is correct..eheh ;)

That's why Mordenkainen issued the transition to 3rd Edition... to get his Con back!

To answer the question: I have no idea, but possibly casting Permanency always drains one Con, while using it as a finishing touch in the creation of a magic item only has a 5% chance to drain one Con.

the part saying "each permanency spell lowers the wizards Constitution by 1 point." is part of the description of the spells use on specific personal spells. It is not in the decription of uses for object/creature or area spells. (this is similar to how object/area spells have the option of being simultaneously cast with permanency)

if you apply "each permanency spell lowers the wizards Constitution by 1 point." to all castings then you should also have an option C)all permanency castings loose 1 con, and castings to make an "enchant an item" spell permanent have an additional 5% chance to loose another 1 con

5% per casting on an item, always when casting it on yourself iirc.
right. Make a spell permanent on yourself? Lose a point of con. Make an item? Only a 5% chance of con loss.
