 Was there any book that has really made you "think playing without them was a bad idea"?

That one that whispered "If you play without me I'll shank you." in my ear one night.

I never played without that book again.

I found both the WSG and the DSG completely useless for AD&D gaming and sold them several years after purchasing them. I can't imagine they would be any more helpful for d20 gaming.

If you PM me we can work your paying postage and I'll send you my copies.

Take this deal, Nyeshet. I've got them both and they are good reads, IMO, too. Having them both for the price of postage is more than worth it. Whether or not they would be directly useful to your gaming is a matter of game style, I suppose.

Yeah, I hate it when I get threatened by one of my books. :\

Seriously though, both the DSG and the WSG are worthwhile. They were disparaged at the time they were published for being full of fluff with little crunch but I always thought of them as valuable additions, especially the DSG's sections on subterranean environments/hazards and perspective mapping.

These two books truely harkened the end of the 1st Edition. I would have to say they are by far the most uninspiring examples of 1E material. That said, if you didn't like 1E you might like these. :D

If you're interested, near mint copies of these books show up regularly on eBay and fetch prices similar to or less than the cost of the PDFs.

Having said that, I wonder if the PDF versions include Wild Things and Dark and Hidden Ways. Nah...
