The Human Target
Adventurer
A really interesting thread.
I wish I could be of help, but I've never played 2e.

To answer ya Q.
Basicly says the 3.0 system is too complicated to learn. An says that he does not have the time to totally relearn yet AGAIN from 2e-to-3e an now from 3.0 -to- 3.5e.

What? When? How? Was there some upcoming products news I missed somewhere? I must know!
I think that's another 3Eism that C&C retained.jeffh said:Oh, and one little thing I need to mention. Every so often I do leaf through my old Basic D&D or 1E AD&D books and occasionally even consider running a one-shot under those rules, but you know what always stops me? It might seem to be a minor thing, and in the final analysis it probably is, but it's the nonsensical saving throw categories. I don't know why they bug me so much, but as soon as I saw the current Fortitude, Reflex, Will trio I instantly decided I could never go back to using the old ones. Though I suppose they wouldn't be too hard to house-rule out.
Sorta. C&C saving throws are level (and prime) modified ability checks. The AD&D categories are still there, but they apply to ability scores. That is, Poison is a Con check, breath weapon is a Dex check, Death attack is a Cha check, et cetera.Whizbang Dustyboots said:I think that's another 3Eism that C&C retained.
KingKaddish said:I only have (4) 2E players... an only (2) of those can still play regularly anymore. But I recently found (4) MORE players who are 3.0/3.5E only, playing some campaign called Riddle of Steel.
BUT! ...again.
My 2E players bluntly REFUSE to try 3.5E ANY more... an the thing that makes me want to stay revised 2E is that one of those 2 that still play is one of hte BEST [ROLE]players I have ever had in a session. ...he disdains dungeons to high hell, but that can be fixed with a little trickery on my part, lol. So kinda hate to loose him as a player... as he is "ALWAYS" the one that saves the rest of group when they all cant fig probs/traps/tricks out on adventures.
He felt the rules were too restrictive
an demanding to keep in your head at all times for ppl who are not familiar with the new system.
...I KNOW alot of you will disapprove of this... but it has worked in my adventures for over 11years... so I am gonna stay with it.
...that an I am not spending $1,000,000 on various minis/map materials, lol.
(3.0) Psionics Handbook -"eventually" will replace with new version.
(3.0) EverQuest Roleplaying Game (all 3 core books) -for a magic with MANA system.. which was one of my custom rules back in my 2e games.
