Hmmm, not bad, a bit more reliable than I was looking for, but not bad flavorwise. I rather liked the fact that magic was not an entirely safe thing in S&B despite the fact that it pretty much stuck to straight up PHB spells. Imight be able to donkey the system from Deadlands D20 into the job using some of the stuf from Witches Handbook.

Thanks.

(In other news, the project might not be entirely dead. We're discussing the possibility of removing those elements that made it specifically "Elizabethulhu"--which remains Cam's property--and seeing if we can do it as "straightforward" Elizabethan fantasy.)
Dude, you just made my Thanksgiving weekend all the more better. All the best of fortunes to Adamant so this can be completed.

Sorry to ressurect an old topic, but...

I finally tried out Corsair.

You know, there is something soul satisfying about rolling 28 D20s all at once! We didn't use the Maiden (the fantastic paper model by WWW.Worldworks.com ), someone brought a few of those WizKid HappyMeal ships. (Pirates of the Spanish Main) and we converted from inches to centimeters for movement. the two teams each had 1 4th Rate, 1 Frigate, and 1 Brigantine. Each player placed 2 shallows and a reef, with an island in the center. (The shallows had a depth of 2.75 fathoms, so only the Brigantines could enter them. But everybody just avoided them.)

I realize that Corsair really isn't intended as a wargame, but it was a lot of fun.

I am now the Master o' the 7 Seas, yarr, harr, harr! I managed to destroy all three enemy ships, without losing a single ship of my fleet. Since they were gone, and I wasn't I managed to be the one who captured the treasure. Yes, we were playing 'Capture the Flag' with sailing vessels, I was just able to judge the angles of the wind bettter, while they ended up hung in irons twice. (This put paid to two of their ships. We used the ship movement modifiers for wind (p.24) in combat, it made combat a lot more complex.)

We stumbled around with the rules for the first three turns or so, then I got the hang of it, and explained it to the others. Next time maybe we will try some boarding actions.

I had the unfair advantage of having my own side while the three other players formed a commitee, each controling 1 ship, with the 4th Rate commander as commodore.

The Auld Grump, Yo, ho! Yo ho! A pirate's life for me... We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, we loot. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot! Drink up me hearties, yo ho! Yo, ho! Yo ho! A pirate's life for me...

Just chiming in to say I bought Corsair and I think it's a very good product.

Things I'd like to see:

- More ships (xebecs and other more ancient ones, mainly);
- Deck plans;
- If deck plans are unfeasible for some reason, then at least info on how many decks a ship has, wether it has an "indoors" cabin for the officers;
- Expansion on the fantasy seafaring topic;
- Sinbad and sailors of his ilk;

What ship would the Black Pearl be?

We'll be doing a "sequel" to CORSAIR in 2005. I'll add your suggestions to the list of things we're thinking about including. I know that we will be giving more ships, as well as more ship feats and a few ship-specific templates.

Not sure of the release date yet. It's still in the planning stages....we don't even have a title for it yet!

In my opinion? I think it's a Fourth Rate. It's an absolute nightmare of a vessel - fast, manueverable, well-armed, so I figure it was originally a naval vessel that Jack had stolen (in a similar fashion to how he commandeered another naval vessel from Jamaica in the film). Then, of course, you'd add a bunch of levels of Legendary Vessel to it.

Here's a question for ya:

I have a 3-PC party that I wish to be the masters of a ship. But I don't want to deal with 100 other sailors. 20-40 is okay. I want the campaign to be set in a large archipelago with dozens of islands (most at 1-3 days of sail apart).

What ship would you suggest?

Well, personally, I don't have a problem running a large crew as largely faceless NPCs, with a few "stand-outs" (usually the Masters---for example, don't detail all of the sail crews, but make the Master of the Tops a fleshed-out NPC).

That said, if you're looking for something smaller, I'd go with a Sloop. Crew of 50, but tougher and speedier than usual (so much so that they use the warship type, instead of the merchantman).

Don't forget the crewman with his fiancee waiting for him back home... the ones that the players will refer to as 'Doomed', 'Deadmeat', 'Sharkbait', or just maybe 'Call me Fishmeal'.
