D&D 5E Adding cantrips to paladin and ranger.

I think the LAST thing the Paladin class needs is more features. That'd be like giving the Bard full weapons and armor proficiency for free. I'd be ok with a more Arcane focused Paladin Oath that maybe lacks the second attack and possibly the Fighting Style too, but gets maybe a few more spell slots and some cantrips in return. That starts to sound an awful lot like a Cleric though.

I do think the Ranger could benefit from another feature or two and I think giving it 2-3 cantrips would be a good way to get that. I'd hate to strictly limit it to Druid cantrips though

Paladins already have a cantrip. It's called Smite.

Smite is not a cantrip, as it costs spell slot to use.
