Adding Half Celestial/Fiend Templates

Howdy!

I am working on a Half-Fiend Sorcer NPC for my D&D campaign. Basicially I want the NPC to be avillian for a time in the campaign and is based a good bit on Venger from the old D&D cartoon. I selected the Half-Fiend template but when I went to add it I was befuddled.

How does the Half-Fiend skill points factor in? They saythey get (8 + INT mod) x (HD x3) but the examples do not seem to have that many skill points. How does these skill points come into play during creation? Also what exactly do they mean by "Base Creature's List"?

Well, if you're interested in how to add the Half-Fiend template mid-campaign, they JUST put the Savage Species-style writeup of it over on WotC's website:

If you're sticking with the core rules, then I'll quote:

Skills: A half-fiend gains skill points as an outsider and has skill points equal to (8 + Int modifier) x (HD + 3). Do not include Hit Dice from class levels in this calculation- the half-fiend gains outsider skill points only for its racial Hit Dice, and gains the normal amount of skill points for its class levels. Treat skills from the base creature s list as class skills, and other skills as cross-class.

That is, the reason you're getting extra skill points is because your monster HD are changing type to Outsider. So, unless you had monster HD, your skill points don't change for adding the template.
