Pathfinder 1E Adding higher level spells to spellbook

If a wizard wants to add spells to his or her spellbook even though they're higher level than they can actually cast, is there any reason they couldn't do so?

For instance, if a 3rd level Wizard finds a scroll with a 3rd level (or higher) spell, can they add the spell to their spellbook after using Read Magic and making a successful Spellcraft check?

Thank you

Nope, no reason. The skill check is the only barrier. That's one of the primary reasons for spellbooks of enemy casters being valuable treasure: if the enemy caster was higher-level than the PCs (and most end-bosses will be), then the PC Wizard can potentially get spells for future development out of it.

Awesome! That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure since I've never really played a Wizard before and am gearing up to play one in an upcoming campaign. I figure I'll add a few higher level spells to my spellbook with starting wealth in order to prepare for leveling up in the future. Thanks dude.

Your GM has to approve something like that at start, and many GMs won't- that sort of spell is really better used as a reward for completing quests than as just something you can get whenever. Of course, different GMs have different preferences in this regard, so YMMV.
