Adding Incarnum to a campaign

I do not have my incarnum book with me at the moment so am seeking suggestions from those that are familiar with this book.

I want to add incarnum in my next campaign but only a little bit, not full blown. I'm thinking of allowing a feat that will let you have a essentia pool. Basically I would just be adding the feats and prestige classes in the magic of incarnum book. The feat would allow you to gain the requirements for the allowed feats and prestige classes.

I was wondering though how much essentia should the feat grant the players. I do not remember if there was one already in the book or not.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There are already feats that grant essentia. Any feat that allows the use of essentia (e.g. Azure Toughness) gives 1 point of essentia, and the Bonus Essentia feat gives another 1 point of essentia. Most of the prestige classes give essentia pools themselves.

It's very easy to integrate it into your game.

Cheers!

Yep, what Merric said. Incarnum is pretty easy to add in that way. If you are looking for ways to introduce it storywise, then you could say the god of death released many souls into the world as a form of eternal damnation, and some have learned to harness the power of such souls (who are more than willing) to create magical effects. This could be a recent occurance if you want to add psionics to an existing campaign.

Thanks for the responses.

I forgot some of the feats do not require one to have incarnum to take it.

I was looking over the book, and found another way. The Azurin are basicaly incarnum touched humans (though you can add it to any race), It looks like a LA +0 template.

The template just gives you 1 essentia point.

Same here, but I've seen someone turn down a +3 ecl magic using race because it had a 50 year lifespan. Didn't seem to mind the LA bit.

Probably had something to do us wanting to see if we can get into epic levels.

How far is a little bit?

Just a personal question. IMC there's a location where Incarnum is a base for all magic. Magic Item is concidered a type of reincarnation, etc. Might be fun to add this.

Having Azurins (Incarnum Touched) availabe, along with allowing players to take feats that gives them an essentia pool I think that all of the prestige classes can be reached without the need to incorporate the full blown incarnum casting classes into the campaign.

However, I noticed that some of the prestige classes give +1 incarnum caster level and +1 arcane or divine caster level. Since there will be no incarnum using base classes, are these prestige classes ok with just +1 arcane or divine class level, or perhaps adding a couple of bonus feats and or more soulmelds to the prestige classes.

Basically the only way anyone will be taking incarnum prestige classes is through race or feats to get enough essentia or souldmelds.

Thanks for any suggestions.
