Adjusting Genasi Abilities

I read on a thread here (somewhere) that the Genasi (statted in a Dragon Magazine and in FRCS) weren't that spectacular as an ECL+1 race. Perhaps that same person suggested on negating the -2 CHA penalty. What are your views on this?

Thc CHA penalty often dosn't make sense. Consider fire genasi, the rationalization for their charisma penalty (FRCS) is they are impulsive and impatient. Does this sound more like a wis penalty to anyone else?
I don't really see a problem with it for most, as it still won't make them better than the aasimar for instance.

One of the first house rules I made was re-adjusting the Aasimar and Tiefling planetouched. I negated the Tiefling's -2 Cha penalty and gave them a +2 Cha bonus, and then gave Aasimar a +2 Str to compensate.

I haven't really looked over Genasi too closely, but I'm willing to bet they need adjusted, as well.

the underlying rationalization for genasi cha bonuses is they are incredibly arrogant thinking their elemental ancestry makes them better than everyone else

And Alexander the Great used logic to discover he was the son of Zeus. Okay his mother told him, but he spent a good part of his free time confirming it.

Part of the equation is the undervaluing of the mental stats in many of the official mechanics.

I remember the Fire Genasi, I thought it was really cool but that Charisma thing seemed wrong to me. The brightly burning fire of a charismatic, passionate person is a longtime archetype afterall...

I think all the planetouched aren't touched enough.

Shoot 'em down if you want, but tell me what you think of 'em.

Air Genasi
-2 Cha (Standard Genasi reason) only (No Wis penalty)

Earth Genasi
-2 Dex (Slow & Ponderous) only (No Cha penalty)

Fire Genasi
-2 Wis (Mercurial & Capricious) only (No Cha penalty)

Water Genasi
No penalty
or
+2 Con, +2 Wis, -2 Cha

Oopsy. I didn't remember what bonus Airs had.
Given that approach, Cha -2 is fine.

Water genasin should get the modifiers- but I think Str is better than Con. I don't remember what they had, but based on your net +2... Str +2, Con +2, Wis +2, Int -2, Cha -2. I would pull out the Con & Int modifiers first.

Now that's some serious modifying
