Admins disabled Profile email addresses?

I noticed just now that I couldn't access someone's email address from their profile. I get a message saying the administrator's have disabled this function. At first I thought it was because I'd forgotten to log in, but after doing so I received the same message.

I then checked my own profile and received it again. I like referring people to my profile rather than typing my email into posts as a deterrant to spam-harvest programs (even if that doesn't really help, it makes me feel better ).

I just read through Plane Sailing's thread here in Meta about server slow-down, and noticed that the email notifications have been stopped. Since I don't use them it doesn't bother me, but I wondered if, in doing that, all email addresses were someone switched off? Or is there some other reason I'm just unaware of? Anyone feel like enlightening me?

It seems to me that all e-mail addresses have been switched off.

For example, the Report Post function doesn't work either right now.
