[Adobe Acrobat 5.0] Need help with adding an e-mail link in a PDF document

Okay, I know how to add a link to a Web site from an Adobe Acrobat document, but how does an e-mail link work?

I tried to do it just like you do for a Web site (using mailto:name@domain.com rather than an http URL), but it still opens a Web browser window in addition to a blank e-mail with the delivery address, and that browser window displays a "page cannot be found" message.

Is there a better way to do this? I know that the user can select to open the link in a browser or open the link in Adobe Acrobat, but if they choose the former option it becomes a bit of an incovenience for them.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed :)

Edit: oops - former option, not latter.

I checked Adobe's online support as well as the PDF Bible by Ted Padova and I wasn't able to find an answer.

Just out of curiosity, what do you all think about including hyperlinks to Web sites or email addresses in a PDF document? Is it a good thing, or an inconvenience?

I will answer your second question first:

I think it's a good thing, as long as you don't go overboard with it. Meaning: a link (url or mail) in the credits and / or introduction should be fine.

The problem with the "mail pop-up" never occured to me, but you are right: it does indeed open a browser window (or uses one that's already open - without changing the url shown...).
That's far from perfect, but as long as nobody can supply a solution it's better this way than not doing it at all - compared with typing the adresse a little pop-up is a much smaller inconvenience.

put it in just like a regular web link but use this for the URL

mailto:someone@somewhere.com

Yep, that's what I did, but you still get a browser window with a "file not found" page opening along with the email window with the email address in the TO field.

Hmmm. Perhaps they've addressed this in Acrobat 6.0...

Btw, thanks Flyspeck23 for the input :)
