Zoe looks at Rinaldo and laughs. "In case you have not noticed yet, you are travelling with three ladies here. Besides that, there is no way we could push a princess along without stopping for a bath at occasions. Yes, we would be spotted, but would that be that bad?"

"If you insist, we will stop at some Inn, but I must tell you that it will be more easy to follow us with witnesses, and that mean maybe some other fights, so I suggest you to always wear the ring."

OOC: I'm going to assume that you are moving off the beaten path for the moment...

As you head off the main road you find that the area is not entirely untraveled, and if you give the horses their heads somewhat, they find subtle paths in the general direction you want to head. Rinaldo suspects that these are the trails of merchants trying to avoid any taxes or inspections that might be imposed at the guardhouse the princess spoke of.

After an hour, the princess suddenly stiffens and tugs urgently on Zoe's sleeve. "Do you hear something ahead?" Paying more precise attention, Zoe spots a large shape mostly hunkered behind a boulder to the right. Looking and listening, she thinks there might be at least one more to the left.

Rinaldo strap my buckler, mw on my arm and get out my crossbow.

OOC: If the buckler will hinder my shots with my crossbow, I won't strap it now. I think it shouldn't but I would not recieve any bonus to AC from it.

Zoe is able to detect a faint amount of evil in the area, but doesn't have time to narrow it down. As Rinaldo and Persephone pause to ready their weapons, the ambushers give up the ambush and stand up from their rocks. There are three half orcs, two armed with clubs and one with a longsword. The one with the sword shouts in orcish
Remember not to hurt the horses!
and they seem prepared to charge.

OOC: good checks on their part, lousy initiative, you guys go first...

Trading with orcs would have served to something finally. Cheap orcs!

"They want our horses!" say Rinaldo. He waits (delay) after Zoe to act in consequence of her action.

At which distance are we from the orcs?

Persephone

"Yuck, ugly orcy things." If Persephone feels that she is able to pull her horse around before they reach her, she will kick her horse and urge it to gallop away from the orcs. If they're too close, she'll just fire her crossbow at the closest one.
