Gregorian comes over after having moved the body, and checking on Jef's body to find the others looking over the sphere. "Find anything?" he asks, looking at the unreadable words on the pipes and the designs on the pshere itself. "Look pretty. Now, why would dwarves, if what we are assuming about the race to have created this thing is correct, create something like this?"

He takes a closer look at the web like lines running over the sphere, and adds "At least I can see the drows' interest in this. THe constructs seem to look a little like spiders as well."

ooc: sorry for the delay. long last few days.

Shariff stands touching the sphere and his long hair stands on end. I can feel the magic. It seems hollow. should I try to open it up? I have a feeling there may be hot water or some hot liquid running in the pipes. it could potentialy spray when I open it.

"Then, is there a way to turn off the water, of whatever?" Gregorian asks, motioning towards the cranks on the pipes leading to the sphere.

"If we did, it would satisfy our contract with the old explorer, but I still question his motives, as I'm sure the rest of you do as well. Perhaps it would be best for us to look for the rest of Jef's relitives to see, first, if they can help him, and second, shed some light on what would happen if we did open it." Gregorain says, still looking at the sphere, not really wanting to see what's inside.

Devlin asks Shariff or Gregorian to describe the symbols to him. If they are Dwarven, he should be able to decipher them, hopefully giving them a clue as to the sphere's function.

OOC: Devlin speaks Dwarven

Silvercat moves closer, lending his languages (Elvish,Goblin,Draconic) to the effort to try and decipher the writings...

(Well, if Devlin can read the three messages to the party, that's the only information present.)

The "Cool Aether" valve is farthest left, then a valve-less pipe. In the middle you have the "Siphoning" valve. Then another valve-less pipe before the far right hand "Hot Aether" valve.

The Hot and Cold Aeither valves are made of heavy bronze discs that can be turned in either direction (right tightens, left loosens).

The middle valve, however, is only a half disk that appears to be locked to one side (right). It can be turned to the left if necessary.

1) Cool Aether
2) Nothing
3) Siphoning
4) Nothing
5) Hot Aether

Shariff smiles at the information and says Great. All we need to do is turn it off. I would think that slowly turning the hot and cold aether down at the same time and then turning the Black disk will shut it off. Should I give it a try?

Nervous at Shariff giving it a try, Silvercat backs away and shrugs his aquiescence. 'It's as good a guess as any, I s'pose...'

Gregoran, always willing to help (or appear to) says [color=cyan}"I think it's the best course that we have... trully, I say I do not want to find out what 'hot aether' is by breaking into it with force, if all we have to do is turn a switch... just beware that they may not be feading the apparatus, but may be exhaust from the apparatus.

As Shariff turns the two valves "shut" a quarter turn, the orb's light dims a bit. As the valve approaches a half turn "shut", the orb's light Has dimmed to a 5 foot radius around the 10 foot object.

You can all sense some sort of empathic "wonder" coming from the orb now. A "questioning" of what is going on. This interrupts the process of shutting down the device for only a second. Shariff finishes closing down the hot and cold aeither valves simultaneously with aid, then the invasive empathic questioning permeates everyone's minds a second time before Shariff considers whether to throw the final switch or not.
