Adventure: Just Before Nightfall (DM:johnmeier1, Judge:Ozymandias79)

"Well I am sure that they mean "take care" in a bad way, like you take care of a fox who tries to steal your chickens - you kill it. Dextyr makes a slicing across the throat motion to illustrate his point.
Tonk massages his forehead. "Language of you make head of me hurt!"

I think that it would be a good thing if we found her before they find them together" Dextyr replies to Tonk, and any of the others who are present.
"I think maybe we go outside and beat bad guy until almost dead and then tie up and then help think about maybe give up be bad, yes? They is maybe still a little way down road, and dwarf girl is hurt much still. Papa always say most short distance between two point is to grab both point and squish together."

Janus looks at the orc with bewilderment and an arched eyebrow. He shakes his head and approaches the villagers with whom the 'others' were talking.
"Do you mind?" He indicates to a vacant chair and sits before any of them can raise an objection.
"I do apologies for the disruption." Janus continues as soft, soothing music begins to play with a wave of his hand.
"My friends and I mean no harm; the way of the warrior is not to be fathomed by peace loving folk, such as you and I." He continues, as a icy hand coalesces at his should with another way of his hand.
"I must admit such disruptions do make an evening more memorable, do they not? Perhaps a drink is in order, to celebrate such an occasion." The hand drifts lazily over to the bar, icy crystals tinkling to the floor as the music continues.
"Myself I prefer a mulled wine, good for digestion, I am told. But you sirs, perhaps the inkeeps finest ale, yes?" The hand gathers the drinks one by one. Delicately places the drinks on a tray, much to the innkeeper’s astonishment and then drifts back to the table where it serves the drinks to the flabbergasted villagers.
"Let me chill that for you." Janus proclaims with a wink, once again waving a hand. The tankards immediately frost over, the outsides beading over with the sudden chill.
"So tell me friends, of the young girl and her mysterious companion?"

Prodigious use of ghost sound, Mage hand and prestidigitation.
Trying to wow the locals and take their minds of the altercation.

Murphy asks some pointed questions of the room and though sometimes the answers are curt or vague, a picture begins to form in his mind. A few details, such as most of the questions Hausk was asking were about the boy and when he arrives in the village regularly and from what part of the forest. He mainly came at dusk or in the early morning, down a seldom traveled path out of the forest. There are some old ruins there, but most villagers are afraid to investigate due to odd goings on. The other adventurers never asked about Isabelle.

Janus gets some wide eyed looks, then smiles, and finally a few scatterings of applause. A swarthy man who could be the blacksmith says It seemed at first that they were chatting as friends, but quickly they began mooning over each other on their walks along the forest canopy. We told Charles and NeNe then, for it is only proper for a young man to court a young lady like that in company.

[sblock=Murphy][sblock=Only Murphy]You get the idea that the kind of questions the group was asking are those of an assassin or ambushers. The boy's habits and when and where he arrives from the forest.[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock=Everyone] Sorry for missing Murphy's roll details, but now you have succeeded! I will hold the XP until later, but the challenge is over. If you have specific questions to ask the villagers, they are now very open and friendly to MOST of you. You can head out any time, but note that you have already spent 15 minutes in the Inn since the others left.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I would say that is just late afternoon. The sun will be up for at least another hour but shadows are lengthening and some are considering dinner if they eat early. Not sure if it is "winter" in Daunton either :) [/sblock]

Murphy looks at the others and as he finalizes his investigations and walks to them.

"I must check into something, there is something I need to find out about these others and will be back when I have my information" the human says, before making his way to the front of the bar. He checks outside before heading out to make sure the others aren't still there. If they are not he will attempt to follow them.

John,

goal here is for Murphy to listen in on their conversations. If there's enough darkness out to hide he will (1d20+13). Perception is +7 to follow them. [/sblock]

Murphy moves out of the inn and looks about. He sees some heavily trodden tracks, probably left by the dwarf and dragonborn, heading through the village and then turning towards the forest. He follows them to that point in the shadows and sees no one at the forest edge, but a path leads further inside.

[sblock=OOC] I created a room called "Just Before Nightfall" in the Dice Room Online Dice Roller Murphy got a 1d20+7=19 on perception so he sees the easy tracks. Stealth to the forest edge is 1d20+13=25.

Standing in the shadows Murphy concentrates for a moment, then blends into the shadows, an invisible smile on his face as he silently creeps forward at a slow deliberate pace.

Use Lurking Shadow Utility power (Daily) and move forward at 2 squares/round, sustain minor each turn.

Become invisible and silent TENT, if you move more than 2 squares or enter bright light you become visible. If a creature tries to enter your square you can shift 1 as a free action, otherwise the effect ends. Sustain Minor[/sblock]

Murphy moves slowly down the sides of the path, easily staying in shadow. After 15 minutes he comes to a bridge over a small creek. Ahead he sees the light of a single campfire.

[sblock=OOC] You are now on the map, since you are invisible and silent you can probably move with impunity but let me know where you are going. The when you get past Z you should be close enough to see the fire and I will update the map.[/sblock]
