[Adventure] KOGANÙSAN (DM: Sanzuo, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

"As a matter of procaution, I suggest we tie a second line of rope around Kavoc. Should Shale be vicously attacked by some tentacled sea demon, and Kavoc pulled in, hopefully Brenwar and I can at least pull him back out of the water."

"Perhaps his rope could be anchored to the tomb,"
Halleck added.

[sblock=ooc]Since I don't know this DM well, I'm not sure if we would allow TPK as a result of dumb party decisions. This is probably a safe course of action we are taking, but I'm a paranoid person by nature, and he did show us tentacle demons minted on coins. We'll likely face a tentacle demon as the final boss, but I'm still worried.

Perhaps we'll get lucky, and if shale does get killed, we'll find him alive in a closet in the next encounter, L4D style.[/sblock]

GM: You guys also have several adventurer's kits, I believe. So, you could splice all your rope together and potentially have a couple hundred feet. One tug means more slack. Two tugs means less slack... but what does one long pull mean?

Everyone gives Shale their own good-luck gesture as the shardmind descends into the water. Although it looked murky from above, now that you are submerged and with the light of the sunrod you can see quite well.

The stairs descend at least another 10 feet from the surface. You note that the water pressure alone might be uncomfortable for those unused to diving. Once you reach the bottom, it straightens into a rough corridor that continues on for for approximately 50 feet or so.

Walking along the bottom, you slowly make your way to the end of the corridor and reach another chamber. This chamber is slightly smaller than the last, but taller. It also looks to be made of finished stone, cut very fine and at straight angles. Classical dwarven architecture. The center of the chamber is dominated by a large depression in the center that is 10 feet deep. There are tunnels leading out of the chamber north, south and east with wide channels running their length and narrow ledges on the edges. Thankfully, a tentacle demon does not appear.

It seems like the depression and channels are meant to be filled by water, and this could be the junction of an aqueduct-like system. As it is, the entire chamber and the tunnels are completely flooded from floor to ceiling. You glance up and notice a shimmering at the top of the chamber, a small pocket of air!

Just then, however, you hear a muffled swooshing sound coming from all three of the tunnels, and see hundreds of shiny figures twinkling in the light of your sunrod. What look like schools of fish are rushing in your direction... zombie carp! They appear to be attracted to the shininess of your body like a regular fish to a lure.

The chamber and tunnels are 2 squares high from the ledges to the ceiling and 4 squares high from the bottom of the channels to the ceiling. The pocket of air is a 2x2 area at the very top-center of the main chamber.

While you are submerged in water you move at half-speed unless you have a swim speed.[/sblock]

Shale has a full round to react.

Paradoxically, I expected and didn't expect this.

Shale moves backwards as fast as he can, while frantically tugging the rope.

[sblock=ooc:]I think that means double running, which should move me 8 squares to the west. Perhaps signalling those holding the rope would be a minor action?[/sblock]

Feeling a tug on the rope Kavac braces himself and starts to pull on the rope too. As he does this he shouts, "Pull!"

With everyone's help and heralded by a frantic splashing Shale comes surging out of the water next to his companions. The undead fish do not follow.

Shale takes the map and he draws what he found while describing it to the rest of the group.

"Except for small air pockets on top of the room, the whole place seems flooded. I'd have investigated more thoroughly, but there are hostile creatures there. And they didn't seem very... alive."

"Sounds like a good idea. Let's keep moving, Brenwar, I'm right after you. Keep your eyes open everyone, we wouldn't want anyone falling into a pit trap, specially now that we know the lower levels are flooded in here."

"Agreed, swimming in plate mail is not something I want to attempt if I can help it." Brenwar takes the lead to the next avenue of investigation.
OOC: I'm not exactly sure which area we are going to investigate next, but I'm prepared to be in the front
