[Adventure] KOGANÙSAN (DM: Sanzuo, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

"Only three pieces of treasure?" He says with an exaggerated-dejected voice. "Rock-Paper-Scissors?"

After losing three consecutive bouts with his famous fist-full-of-parchment gambit (which is, of course, rock, paper, paper), he sighs and returns to staring hopelessly at the runes.

OOC: For effect, I assume the translated runes are read aloud, followed by this assessment.

"According to this document we can expect flooded levels, and defensive positions consisting of a trapped hall, hallways with arrow slits (though possibly unmanned by now) and roaming war dogs. There may or may not be diamonds."

"But since he seemed to be not entirely stable and what he described, based on the corpse's condition happened some time ago, this information may not be entirely accurate"

"Fine work, Captain Obvious," Halleck says with a mischievous grin. "The flooded levels concern me the most. Experience has shone swimming to be, shall I say, a weakness, of the party. Perhaps it would be prudent to head back and try another entrance?"

Karma seems to be still and seems to be examining the letter but not looking at it. Almost as if he is trying to gain some form of Insight into these people.

"I hate to be declared obvious but doesn't this letter talk about a secret project, as it is a tomb building dwarf it makes me think of undead. Now as far as I know, there can't be any good undead related secret projects. Not to jump the gun, but if it is anything like that the remains of said secret project are still floating around. Diamonds or gems could be used as a phlactery of a lich.. or gems are used in soul magic as storage devices. It doesn't say otherwise but they could even be black diamonds some form of necrotic components. Then again he seemed a little awed about this treasure which while substantial is not an absolute fortune. Finally, he must have been a fairly solid fighter to take the overseer even with the element of surprise. from what I have heard of dwarf command, it is normally battle linked..."

OOC:

Karma is always interesting, but only lvl 2.. His swimming ability has increased a lot however as he took athletics as part of a feat. So he can now swim without a friendly party member to hold his hand.

I start on 5 healing surges, wish after a solo fight I could say, I am down to 4.. :P stupid 8 con..

Insight check: Obviously a very difficult check, trying to learn as much as I can from the way the journal was written and to gain anything from the tone of the words.. The dwarf seems arrogant? Does he sound like he can take care of himself a powerful fighter or did he kill the dwarf from behind.. Go insight focus feat!
Roll Lookup +12 = 28

History check: Does dwarf command operate around military rank in most folklore that I am familiar with.
Roll Lookup +10 =17

Perception check: can I see what might be the remains of the rest of the journal some ruined pages etc.
Roll Lookup +4 = 23

"Why? Ah, yes. You need to breathe air. That's inconvenient.

"How long ago was 3rd of Feldspar, 128BM?" asks Kavac.

This is definitely not a calender any of you are familiar with, since almost everyone goes by the Alarian calender (I think? Not sure how it works). It is possible that, since the dwarves of this place were so isolated, they kept their own time.

[sblock=Insight:]The dwarf was clearly very unstable if not insane. If it is true that he hollowed out this chamber on his own, he would have to have been exceptionally strong and athletic. Easily capable of killing another dwarf, especially if he caught him off-guard.[/sblock][sblock=History:]From what you know about dwarven societies, they are generally very formal and organized. They tend to arrange military and civilian sides of society separately, but each working together. An overseer would be the leader of a small, mining-based community such as what this undoubtedly was.

Also, the presence of a tomb doesn't necessarily suggest anything malicious. Dwarven funeral traditions generally involve subterranean internment such as catacombs or tombs. Particularly important or respected members of dwarven society would have larger and more lavish accommodations after death. Often, wealthy dwarves would have their own tombs designed and built while they were still alive, to make sure that they are satisfactory.[/sblock][sblock=Perception:]You find the rest of the journal! Unfortunately, it was apparently water-logged and disintegrated into a pulpy mass. Only the few pages you recovered are intact.[/sblock]

Also, now that you all have had time to examine your treasure a little more carefully, you notice a few things about them.

[sblock=The Orb]Etched into the orb are images of dwarves. The dwarves appear to be praying.[/sblock][sblock=The Staff]On the staff are images of dwarves, dogs and elephants. The dwarves and the dogs are fighting the elephants.[/sblock][sblock=The Robes]Sewn into the robes are images of dwarves, humans and elves. The dwarves and humans are striking heroic poses. The elves are burning.[/sblock]
Even the coins appear to have been minted locally, judging by what you recognize to be the runes of "Koganusan" stamped around them. On the heads side of the coin is a mandrill. On the tails side is what appears to be some kind of tentacle demon.

OOC: Just so I'm clear there is a tunnel leading further in isn't there? (Although judging by the note there is a possibility of flooding?

OOC: Just so I'm clear there is a tunnel leading further in isn't there? (Although judging by the note there is a possibility of flooding?

GM: You may certainly explore in that direction.

Confirming your suspicions, after investigating a short distance down the eastern tunnel you find that it ends in stairway that descends into murky, black water.

No matter what the images on the orb are, Shale feels energy flowing from it, easing the task of holding the crystals that form his body together and strenghtening his psionic abilities. If these people had such knowledge of the disciplines of the mind, there's a true possibility they had something to do with his creation or others like him.

"There's only one way to continue. Are you rested enough?"

Later, when they find the water and it's obvious that the rest of the party can't continue that way...

"The water level must have rised since the journal was written. I see no choice but to go out and see if the other caves offer a way in."

OOC: I think the journal mentions another level being flooded, probably the one below the level we're in Nevermind

"As we have someone who doesn't need to breathe, can we send him down with a rope and a everlasting torch... it may be its only a brief flooding which we would be able to swim. We don't really know how deep it is?"
