From his position supporting Rujah, Gensai spoke up. "If you help us find this Shear, we will deal with him. His agents have tried to kill my masters, twice, and he has kidnapped a noble blacksmith."

"Perhaps once he is removed from your island, the balance of power will shift back to its rightful place."

"Great dragon, can you please enlighten us about the fate of the dwarves island? Your wisdom is much enlightening." Riardon explains the dragon
Why, I would love to tell you as much as I know," The dragon becomes suddenly smug, and takes on the look of a librarian about to read to a group of small school children. She curls up on the ground, and adopts a comfortable position, "Not long ago, well, I suppose it would be quite long ago for you," she chuckles, "Dwarves lived here on the island. They called their home Rioc Parvel. This was before my time, you understand. It was a lavish kingdom under the mountains to the East, but they met a grizzly fate. An old, blue dragon, by the name of Mar Shochraos heard of the wealth the dwarves had amassed for themselves," she brings her head up and cranes her neck in closely to the group, meeting each man's gaze in turn, "He, single-handedly, slew every last dwarf in Rioc Parvel, and took their wealth for his own,"her voice becomes suddenly ominous,"Not a soul escaped.

"Seeing that Mar Shochraos had ambitions far beyond a simple dwarven stronghold, my mother and her sister decided to do away with this threat before it became too powerful. They destroyed Mar Shachraos in his sleep, and once again, there was peace in Aleinheist, but alas, it was a peace that would sustain itself for but a moment of time, for at the time of their victory, my mother and her sister were unaware that Mar Shochraos had sired a son. He escaped. For a while he lived in the forest, unknown to us, and growing stronger,"
anger now grows in the dragon's face, "And then that wizard showed up. With the help of Shear, he tricked the forest creatures and our own kobold servants into allying themselves with him, driving my mother and her sister from their lair. The blue wyrmling's shrewdness impressed the forest creatures so much that they named him Walyrn. It means Trickster in their tongue, and that is why we call him this in ours: Wer Vhisar: Cheater!

"Homeless, my mother and her sister now roam the forests because of the alliance Wer Vhisar has made with its creatures and the kobolds that once served my mother and her sister. He would be dead by now if it were not for one thing,"
she spits into the ground and more grass wilts where her silvia strikes, "He is immune to our poison," she watches the wilting grass, and it is clear she is wishing that the grass were the body of Wer Vhisar, "With that army of deformed kobolds behind him, he is too hard to dislodge..., but now that you are here...perhaps there is hope, no?"

[sblock=Riardon]Dispite your vast knowledge of history, not much is known of Aleinheist. Most is legend and song, you do, however remember a time that you were in the Hanged Man overhearing a rather inebriated, homely, elf, ranger staring into her mead, singing low and to herself something that went like this:

How long's your memory old tree?
How much do you remember great ash?
Your life is long and free.
You hold within your rings the past.

Do you remember the greed of men,
and the debt they unknowingly owe?
They dig for gold buried deep long ago,
but their late to the party again.

They cut down your brothers oh wise one.
They burned your mother to cook their food.
Your father, they sold to make things out of gold,
And a stump now remains where he stood.

Rioc Alair, I will curse to the air,
And Efil will fall for a price,
Douse that light from the tow'r on the shore
like the rivers of ore from Aleinheist.

Moonstone of Rioc Parvel,
serve ever more to warn us well.
Dig too deep, raise head too high,
and your bones will lie where dragon's dwell.

At the time, the song appeared to be no more than a curse against those that destroy nature, referencing areas of this continent that, up until the last few days, was completely unknown to you.

But, with your recent experiences, and the Dragon's mentioning of Aleinheist, that cryptic song suddenly swells with lucidity. The dwarves mined on this island, and evidently the amount of wealth that streamed from the mine was enough to be considered a "river".

The wealth however dried up a long time ago for some reason, and evidently, the singer saw this as a testimony to the inevitability of this occurring to any business venture that strips the earth of its natural resources.

Your memory, however, leaves the identity of the elf ranger a mystery to you, nor does it serve to shed light on what this "Moonstone" might actually have been. These are things you will have to file away for later.[/sblock]

"Then this is fortuitous indeed. As for Shear, he comes and goes like a flighty bird, but Wer Vhisar keeps a lair, and this is easy to find, because it used to be my home. Once you find the lair, Shear will not be long in coming," She nods to the west, "Follow that river until it empties into the Womb of Avenroc. Circle the island for half a day, keeping the coastline on your left, and you will find the mouth of the cave. From there, I cannot help you. When I have Shear's head, and Wer Vhishar has been slain, you may return to me here, and I will reward you even more handsomely that I do now," she nods again to the west, "There are boats on the river. In them you will find items that will help you do the work you have promised to do. Do not think of betraying me. You do not share the freakish power of Wer Vhisar, and a dragon's anger burns for millennia." With that, she leaps into the air and disappears into the blue and cloudless sky.[sblock=Treasure]Gotta go to bed. I'll post treasure and gold tomorrow. Make sure your wishlists are up to date.[/sblock]

After the dragon leaves, Mervin turns to the group. "So, we just need to kill a dragon, possibly a bunch of kobolds along the way, and then destroy this evil wizard? Seems straightforward enough! Perhaps we'll even find this dwarven friend of yours as well.

Shall we take a break before heading that way?"

[sblock=ooc]Mervin is suggesting an extended rest, since it seems like it will take less than a day to get there and we're pretty exhausted. (N+8 battles will do that. ;)) Let's search the boats first, just to make sure everyone updates their sheets with any new loot as well.

HMG: Mervin's wishlist is probably fine, although I must confess I've been putting off leveling him up because I wanted the Character Builder to be updated with all the new material. Since we have no idea when that is going to happen now, I'll start working on leveling him up - but I'd like to reserve the right to make a few changes, if that's ok, and that may include a few things on the wishlist.[/sblock]

GM: Major Quest (1200xp X2): Kill Wer Vhisar and return to Iguyo Di Wer Gorvisv with his head.

Major Quest (1200xp X2): Rescue Hankel and reinstate him as king of Rioc Parvel

[sblock=Riardon]Minor Quest (120xp X2): Discover the significance of the "Moonstone" from the last stanza of the song from your memory. Find it, and make sure that it does not become a "warning" ever again.[/sblock]

[sblock=Mervin]Your insight serves you well even when you are not trying. Though everything Iguyo Di Wer Grovisv said was true, you are certain that she was holding back important information.

Perhaps it was simply that she could better persuade you for her own personal advantage. Perhaps it was to deceive you and send you to your doom. Perhaps she, and not
Wer Vhisar is the one to be feared. Of the motive, you are not certain...yet.

Minor Quest (120xp X2): Discover what her motive was.

GM: Extended Rest Granted

Battered, hurting, and relieved that they were not eaten by a dragon, the group makes their way down to the river. There they find three small boats moored to rocks, two of which contain what looks to be a stash of loot.

In one of the boats, Mervin finds a rather fancy looking suit of leather armor with a shiny amulet pinned to the breastplate. As he studies this piece of workmanship, something else catches his eye. In the belt of the armor is a pair of long, crimson, elbow-length gloves. As he tries them on, he can feel power surging through his hands. On the floor of the boat, next to where the armor lay, he finds a discarded, glowing, red crystal. Examining the shard, he realizes that this is no ordinary rock. Immediately, he sets to work with his knife to fashion a nock in his staff in which to mount the talisman.

Fenwick's eyes go wide as he sees a beautiful, ebony helmet decorated with ox horns. As he lifts it, he also notices two armbands inside the helmet as well as a pair of sleak-looking gloves that are thin, but durable, embuing him with a sense of strength and aim. These were evidently a matching set worn by a victim of Wer Vhishar..., or perhaps of Iguyo Di Wer Grovisv.

Riardon looks through the trove to find something rather curious. It's a brilliant, yellow-white opal that blazes with the light of a thousand suns. It's magic revitalizes his sword when the pommel is replaced with this gem.

Lying elsewhere in the pile of treasure, he sees a neck chain on the end of which is fastened a pendant depicting a staff wrapped about with two vipers.

Rujah turns over the pile and discovers a suit of fine, hide armor for himself complete with a pair of leather gloves that turn out to be more than they appear. In the gloves, he finds three small, blue, spherical crystals that appear to contain a raging storm. They do not, however, shock him when he picks them up, on the contrary, they send a warming sensation through his talons. Lying beside the gloves, underneath the armor, is a sturdy-looking shield, perfectly balanced, and tough as the earth itself.

Gensai moves the pile of loot over, more to make room for himself in the boat than to look for anything, but he does find two things that catch his eye: two armbands much like those that Fenwick found, but made of leather.

"I suppose the Dragon didn't like me," Gensai joked. "Or it just recognized me for what I am: a dead man walking, who has no need for treasure."

The ronin gathered firewood for their camp.

[sblock=HMG]
No problem; I totally understand. But, can we swap out the armbands? I know they were on my wishlist, but as I evaluate the powers I have been using, I don't use melee attacks very often (so far, none at all). My melee at-will is situational for ranged foes, and my daily is an interrupt. So, I'm worried it will be a bit of a waste. If it's not too much of a pain, can we swap it for Warded Vambraces (same level). I think that makes more sense for my gameplay style.

Thanks,
