Adventure:-- LPNN (Manzanita Judging)

(OOC: Heehee, PbP combat is definitely tough, especially the one in Immortality Awakens. My first PbP combat was the only one that went smoothly. We finished two or three combat rounds in one hour and then it was done.)

OOC: I was actually looking forward to playing as a wererat. Of course, the only good rolls I've had is the fortitude saves.

OOC2: Of the 10 battles I've been in on LEW, 7 has been against monsters with Damage reduction X/bludgeoning, weapon immunity, or something similar (ie half damage vs piercing/slashing), often combined with fire resistance (to get rid of torch/oil attacks). Where are all the meat monsters? Oh...I guess that's us.

OOC: Yes.

By the way two, only Natural Lycanthropes can spread lycanthropy.

There are just way, way, way, way too many rules to this game.

I'm using the following from the SRD: "Finally, a natural lycanthrope (or an afflicted lycanthrope that has become aware of its affliction) can assume a hybrid form that is a mix of its humanoid and animal forms. A hybrid has hands and can use weapons, but it can also attack with its teeth and claws. A hybrid can spread lycanthropy with its bite, and it has the same damage reduction that its animal form possesses."

If there is an errata, don't let me know about it.

OOC: Look under the "Creating a Lycanthrope" and there under "Special Attacks" and then Curse of Lycanthropy (Su). It's pretty darn hard to find, I only found it because I heard about it from my cousin, and even I had to look for it quite long. I wonder if it would have been such a big job to add one sentence to each werecreature's Curse of Lycanthropy ability description. No need for errata even. Just stupid placement.

(OOC: Yeah, that's really weird and it doesn't even really make sense. In every version I've seen before, and in legend, afflicted lycanthropes can always afflict more...that's why its so dangerous--it can spread like an epidemic. I wouldn't consider it in poor taste if two just decided to houserule that they have the curse...then again, Zaeryl is immune to it (it can only affect humanoids and giants, not aberrations), so I'm not the one to ask :p)

OOC:
From the SRD:
Curse of Lycanthropy (Su)
Any humanoid or giant hit by a natural lycanthrope’s bite attack in animal or hybrid form must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or contract lycanthropy. If the victim’s size is not within one size category of the lycanthrope the victim cannot contract lycanthropy from that lycanthrope. Afflicted lycanthropes cannot pass on the curse of lycanthropy.

BTW, this is news to me too, and honestly seems contradictory to other WoTC liturature (I think Eberron talks about an epidemic for example).

That's silly.

Luckily for the party, these are not your normal "afflicated" WereRats. They are, rather, "naturally afflicted". Meaning, they act like afflicted, but can pass the disease as well. Yeah, that's it.

Anything that buried deserves to be ignored.

While I don't agree with this policy in general, in this instance, I agree that what is written in the SRD and MM makes little sense and your ruling is quite fair. I'm just glad they don't have the full DR :))
