[Adventure] Marna is Missing (DM: pacdidj, Judge: renau1g)

"So, the door or the hall? The hall may be more burial chambers, but there is no water in the one we just were in. Water may lead to the center of the temple. Are there signs of entrance through these doors recently?"

Cyr examines the statue for runes or other hidden things that might spring nasty surprise.

OOC: question is for trackers, but o fcourse, it's directed to pacdidj

The statues are quite similar to those you saw out front. Each one depicts a watchful and vigilant Eladrin, robed in a chiton/toga-like garment, holding a longsword at the ready.

[sblock="Inspect the statues"][sblock=Perception 15]You make a cautious, but thorough scan of the statues. You don't see anything to indicate that they might be trapped.[/sblock]

[sblock=Streetwise 16]Something about the set of the jaw and stern, proud look in the eye of these statues leads you to believe that they must represent some sort of historical elite-possibly noble or royal-guard force.[/sblock][/sblock]

The iron door has been shaped with hieroglyphic-like panels depicting scenes of battle and courtly splendor: soldiers celebrating atop a cliff in front of a giant ballista, the coronation of some king or noble, a ritual beneath a full moon, a wedding, a diplomatic meeting of Eladrin and human tribespeople. There is nothing written to indicate what might lie behind the door, nor indeed any writing, save for a large rune of the same type you saw on the bridge and columns scorched into the door over the panels, absorbing the light with its sinister anti-glow.

[sblock="Approach the door"][sblock="Examine the rune - Arcana 17"]Like the runes you've seen before, this one also employs shadow magic, but rather than having an entropic effect, this seems to be a rune of warding meant to keep the door shut.

[sblock="History 17 or ability to read/speak one of the Primordial group of languages"]Having now seen two different types of the strange runes, you notice some interesting similarities between these markings and the contemporary Tsugo script, which is said to derive from dark languages that have been spoken by demons and other fell creatures since the dawn of creation.[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock="Nature or Dungeoneering 15 - Look for signs of passage"]Fresh tracks in front of the door indicate that someone, likely whoever inscribed the rune, has approached the door very recently, probably within the past day. Interestingly though the tracks stop at the door, then turn around and head south. The door does not seem to have been opened or disturbed save for the inscription of the rune.[/sblock]

[sblock="Perception 22 - Listen at the door"]Putting your ear to the door, you hear, ever so faintly, a whispering sound coming from within, like a voice that immediately echoes itself. You can't make out what the voice is saying, but just the sound of it simultaneously gives you chills and fills your heart with grief.[/sblock][/sblock]

Ferris approaches the door to see what he can see.

Arcana=16, Nature=31, Perception=25

"Tracks come up to the door, in the last day or so, then leave to the south without even going in...probably the one who inscribed this rune here..." Ferris says from his crouched position. "This door might be a ruse..."

After a moment of quiet listening at the door Ferris shudders. "And I hear something behind this door... a whispering, sad almost-voice that fills my heart with grief... as well fills my stomach with dread..."

Meanwhile Alnar takes a look at the statues. Well, looks like some prissy noble type, something the Eladrin would like. Lets see what is behind that door, shall we?

"These may be other guardians of this place and sadness may mean they are ghosts from the past. I say we open the door, but be ready to persuade whatever comes through here that we're here to stop the ritual and defiling of the temple. May lead to valuable ally, but also means we're wasting some time, we might not have. In no case should we open the door and start blasting. Let me try something."

He hurries back and returns what he had taken from the offerings to the dead. He then lights small candle at the entrance of the crypt hall and returns quickly.

Cyr approaches the door and calls out in clear voice in eladrin language
"Guardians behind the door, listen! We are here to stop the foul ritual and drive the shadows out. We will let you out and are NOT seeking fight with you. May we open the door for you?"

Sir Exsixten sits looking at the door quietly.

[sblock=OOC]I'm back, but catching up on a bunch of stuff so not much time to post today...[/sblock]

Jezebel patiently waits for any response from the "spirits." There is little enjoyment to be had in fighting the undead, so welcomes the chance to bypass another encounter.

[sblock=ooc]Likewise, I am here but busy.[/sblock]

"'Keeps the doors from opening' ...hmm, interesting." Ferris muses. "I think CYr maybe on to something ... if our quarry didn't want whatever is behind these doors to leave, might be to our advantage to look into it."
