Let me tell you something that I really liked about the adventures in SCAP that I don't like about Age of Worms. In Shackled City most adventures had one scene, an actual written out part of the adventure, that served as the "get the players motivated" scene. Either a meeting with an NPC, a combat sequence, etc. Many of the adventures in Age of Worms almost start in media res, picking up at the first encounter of the dungeon. The Whispering Cairn and Three Faces of Evil are good examples; they have some preliminary discussion about what should motivate the players, but not an actual scene. Sure, it's something I can do myself, but I liked having that so that I didn't have to think up a way to get the players involved.
Now I will say this: starting the adventure with the players basically at the entrance to the dungeon does have a hefty amount of "first edition feel." I just prefer the addition of that "Set-Up Scene" to each adventure because it gives me ready-made answers to the players' questions. I think The Champion's Belt has one such scene, but I'm not sure. Still, it was very much missing from the early adventure in my opinion.
