Adventure Paths in Other Settings

Rhada

First Post
Hi! First of all, excuse my english, I'm not very good at it. :p

I'm thinking about running one of the Pathfinder Adventure Paths (I haven't decided wich one yet), but I want to use some other campaign setting instead of Golarion. My two options are:

Eberron: I have all the 3.5 books and I love this setting. Do you think any of the APs would be easily converted to a region of Eberron (any region) without neither of them loosing their uniqueness?

Forgotten Realms: I'm not a big fan of this CS, but I have a sourcebook I lways wanted to use: Unapproachable East. It has barbarians (Minsc FTW), witches, red wizards and other cool and exotic stuff. Is there any AP that would fit in this region?

I was looking at the published AP. Rise of the Runelords and Second Darkness caught my eyes, but the other ones seem ok too.

Thanks for reading! :D

I'm just starting the Savage Tide path from Dungeon and I'm setting it in Eberron (the characters are starting in the Shadow Marchs, I'm going to set the Isle of Dread somewhere near Xen'drik). I haven't had to alter anything of significance so far and I don't expect a problem where I'll have to.

I imagine most of the Pathfinder AP will be fairly easy to convert to other worlds. Most modules tend to be self-contained and a few minor backdrop changes are all that is needed to fit the AP in another world.

I have run Savage tide in Eberron as well. I placed Sasserine in the Lhazaar principality , off the coast of Q'barra and placed the isle of dreed in the thunder sea between Xeb'drik and Aerenal. The uper adventures needed reworking because of how eberrons plans work.

I tell ya want why don't ya pick which AP you want to use and We can help you adapt it to the setting you want to use.

Rise of the Runelords - Eberron
Sandpoint becomes a costal town near Stormreach, Magnimar becomes Stormreach. Other locations in the AP become locations interior of Xen'Drik with Xin Shalast being the most inaccessible mountainous region on Xen'Drik

Rise of the Runelords - Faerun
Sandpoint becomes Nyth on west edge of the Great Dale, Magnimar become Teflamm. Stoval Plateau region is the escarpment areas between Rasheman and Thay with Xin Shalast being in the eastern end of the Icerim Mountains.

Curse of the Crimson Throne - Eberron
Khorvosa is a city on the coastal area of Karrnath, the Cinderlands is part of the Talenta Plains with Scarwall in Darguun

Curse of the Crimson Throne - Faerun
Khorvosa is a coastal city in Durpar, the Cinderlands is the extreme eastern end of the Shaar with Scarwall somewhere near the Raurin Desert and the Giant Belt mountains

Legacy of Fire - Eberron
Sarlona is the best choice given the very arid desert setting.

Legacy of Fire - Forgotten Realms
Calimshan with Calimport replacing Katapesh.

Kingmaker - Eberron
The Eldeen Reaches is the best choice through one can have Droaam or the Shadow Reaches as good alternative location. The Eldeen Reaches is best due to the fey foreshadowing.

Kingmaker - Faerun
Almost any area of unclaimed territory is a good candidate. A Silver Marches tie in with Kingmaker taking place in the area near the High Forest works.
So does a eastern Great Dales / Rasheman area setting. Another good area is The Vast region.

Second Darkness - Eberron
Riddleport is part of the Lhazaar Principalities, transitioning to Valenar then to Aerenal.

Second Darkness - Faerun
Riddleport is part of Algarond or Thesk, transitioning to the Yuirwood then finally to Evermeet

Wow! Thanks a lot for the advice!

Years ago I wanted to run Savage Tides in Eberron. The regions you placed Sasserine where the same ones I've considered. ST looked very "Eberronish" to me, so it was easy to convert to this setting. Sadly, that campaign never saw light.

Amazing! I think this will work realy fine because the dark past of that region near the Nar Empire. With some little adjustements I can convert the demonic past of that empire in something more related with the Runelords.

Thanks again! :D

I decided to run Rise of the Runelords in the Unapproachable East, using the sugestions BlackMoria gave me. Now I'm working on the background of the adventure and the setting, rewriting their history and geography.

Before reading, keep in mind that I don't care about Forgotten Realms canon. I like it, but I preffer to tinker with it to adjust it to my needs. I'll try to mantain the 3.5 setting, but I'm not afraid to change things in a way they seem cooler and better for the Adventure Path. This are my ideas so far:

  • Merge Thassilion with Narfell: Narfell was an empire ruled be the powerfull runelords. Their demon-summoners were not so important, instead they are remembered for their runic magic and the 7 schools of magic. Tatoo magic and runic magic used in the east (especialy in Thay and Thesk) are a legacy from Narfell.

  • History: merge Raumathar with the empire Thassilion fought against (I can't find the name of that civilization) and include something similar to Earthfall. In the end of war, Raumathar used epic magic to cast a great star to fall over Narfell. They miscalculated the spell effect and it could have destroyed Faerun but some divinity/power (maybe the wytchlaran) saved the day, shattering the falling star. Countless star-shards fell over Narfell, Raumathar and the near regions. The greatest fragments fell in the Inner Sea, causing a great tsunami wich destroyed lot of coastal cities. This catastrophe destroyed both empires and the land experienced a Dark Age wich lasted centuries. Demons summoned by the Nar claimed the land and barbarian tribes fought for survival in that hostile environment.

Aglarond: the elves of Yuireshanyaar forsaw the Starfall and fled to Sildeyuir. Only a handfull of brave elves stayed in Toril. Those elves protected the Yuirwood and intermarried with humans, giving birth to the nation of half-elves.

The Great Dale: they were never part of the Narfell Empire. The forests of this region were protected by The Oakfather. When the war and the Starfall destroyed the cities and armies, the Great Dale became a secure place in wich demons and savage warriors dare not enter. Nameless spirits were dispatched by Silvanus to help heal the nearby lands. This nameless spirits now inhabit all the eastern lands, specialy Rashemen.

Rashemen: the wytchlaran, heirs of Raumathar, united the barbarians and Rashemen was born to fight against a demon-lord. The nameless spirits helped them heal the land during the Dark Age.

Thesk: this lands were unclaimed until the end of the Dark Age, when Damarans, Shou and Tuigans started to explore the lands of the east. They found ruins of the Nar civilization and built new cities over the ruins. This independant cities became Thesk and the Golden Way was created.

Thay: this lands were merely affected by the Starfall. Thayans didn't try to conquer the devastated lands of the east, because of the demons, barbarians, witches and extrange magical phenomena generated by the Starfall. It was when the land was healed when they saw it with greedy eyes.

  • Races: Damarans will merge with Chelaxians. they will have a demonic-worshiping past and come from the survivors of Narfell.

Rashemis merge with the Shoanti peoples: they are really similar.

Varisians merge with Shou and Tuingans: not similar, but I don't care, I like the oriental feeling of the east better.

  • Geography: this is one of my greatest concerns. I'm worried about the placement of the Hookmountain, the Fortress of the Stone Giants and the Runeforge. I didn't read the adventure in detail, but it seems to me that I will have to change the geography of Thesk and the Great Dale to include this places

Do you have any sugestions, ideas I could borrow or advice?

Again, thanks for reading and excuse my English.
