(Adventure) Retrieval of Fallon's Key (Macbeth Judging)

"Your mother is a painted slave" Iggy translates, looking a bit uncomfortable with how his demonstration is going.

Sara laughs and claps the wizard on the back. "I think he was talking to the wrong one of us there, Iggy. Now I actually wish I'd learned any other languages than orcish curses and [in halfling] 'how about some lust in the dust.' But is that the flashiest thing you can do? I mean it looks really useful, but you aren't gonna woo the crowds with that one..." She sounds almost as appologetic as disapointed.

Iggy

"Oh, I'm not flashy, Sara. Some of the other students favored this kind of magic, but being flashy would just get a little guy like me in trouble. I've tried to stick with the useful stuff. As time goes on, I hope to pick up a lot more."

To Wind, "'Lose your fear, and gain the world.' I like that. Thanks"

Grateful to Rogier for starting the conversation the young man answer the paladin's question in a low voice.
"As you can tell by my name, I like speed." he says with a chuckle. "I especially love running. The wind on my face, the raising heartbeat, the fluid movement of my muscles help my concentration. Running keeps me focused, body and mind. To ride the griffon was a similar experience, but without the bodily part. It has been a very interesting mental and spiritual experience. It gave me something to meditate on. How has it been for you? My rider told me he has been flying with griffons for already 125 years, and he's still enjoying it as the first time. What would you do if you could live for centuries?"

Riding a griffon is one of the most wonderful things I have ever done in life so far. High in the sky, I felt close to Hyrag, as if he was whispering to me. I guess your meditations aren't much different from my prayers. And what would I do hmmm... Rogier looks at Wind, thinking hard. He takes a bite of his food, a zip of his drink, and continues talking. I would spread the word of Hyrag as far as I could. I would travel to unknown lands, for me that it is. Maybe even put up a temple up somewhere, I'm not sure. But I don't have to worry about such a long lifespan, I'm not an elf. With those words he laughs a bit, taking another bite of his food.

Seeing Iggy trying to impress people with his magic, but the crowd is a though one, Rogier decides to give him a bit of selfesteem. Well done Iggy, and you are totally correct, not all magic is offensive, violence isn't always the only path to reaching your goal. But your magic might not be the perfect one to impress people with, after all, there are people who can speak all kinds of languages without the aid of magic. Rogier finishes his plate, and empties his cup, and enjoys the rest of the entertainment that follows.

"Well, there's no need to worry about trouble with me around." Sara declares, putting her arm around Iggy in a protective fashion. "You learn a spell to drop the elf tykes trousers while he's speachifying if you want and anyone who objects will get two swords for their troubles!" The warrior woman pauses, apparently listening to herself and glances down at the mug in her hand. "Wow, this stuff has more of a kick than it tastes like, doesn't it? Don't pants the kid till after we're paid, ok?" She shakes her head, grabs another large pile of food and a mug of water this time and turns back to the other halfling.

"Anyway, I was thinking about your complaints about the wizards who wouldn't train you... are they the only ones in your homeland? Iggy here found a school that would take him, though I don't know where either of you are from."

[Myth, some people have a problem with me being a Strongheart Halfling. Now CS wants me to change to normal halfling, but I am not gonna do that. If I have to change from Strongheart Halfling I am probably going for a Human Wizard...which means that the story will grow a bit inconsistent...What way do you suggest we handle this?]

I'm from a land far, far away. I travelled for three years before I ended up here. I don't know where Iggy is from, but it probably won't be the same country.

The Wizards who wouldn't train me are indeed the only ones. The are the official power too, so their will is law. They are all humans, and only humans are allowed to join their ranks. Other races can not get magical schooling in any legal way. You might be able to learn some simple tricks, but the real training starts when you become an apprentice of one of them, and that's simply impossible...

"Iggy, I studied for seven years, speaking with kin who had travelled to the Giantlands, pouring over thick, boring books filled with word after word in a tongue I did not understand, speaking for hours until my throat grew hoarse, in order to learn Giantish. I, for one, am very impressed that you can understand it with flick of the wrist and a few simple words."

Llolian begins to reconsider the power of arcane lore, seeing it at use more clearly than with the elves at home in Kinderlost, who hoarded their power like misers counting coppers.

Llolian looks for an elf who may be in charge of things, and asks if they have plans for standing guard during the night - or if the griffons do well enough.

OoC: I really have no say in the creation of your charcter except to say that the Strongheart halfling is NOT in the SRD, which means that you can not play him as he is now (which, I think, you know at this point). So you want the extra feat? Then my suggestion is to change him to a very short human and continue. Perhaps so short, that the Wizards of your land could not believe that you were a true blooded human. That would REALLY be tough... wanting to learn magic, qualifying and then being rejected because of your resemblace to another race. Think on it.

Llolian finds an elf who turns to him with a smile and shakes his head. "Worry not, my friend! This many griffons could keep a large dragon at bay... and there are no dragon leavings in this area, or Yeloinian would not have picked this spot to camp. No, the griffons meer presense should be enough, though keep an ear open. If there is trouble, the griffons will make such a comotion, that you will think they had gone into heat!" The elf turns back to the table to refill his plate.

The boy, who had been watching the deminstration, nods and says "My father is a deviner, htough you would hardly tell. He tends to use alot of 'flashy' spells, more illusion then anything, if that makes sense. A devinor using illusion. Well that's him. I think that your magic is very impressive!" He turns to the group, with a slight tinge of red coloring his cheek from his rambling. "I think I will call it a night. We'll be waking before the light, and be back on our way with the first rays of morning. Good night." He does a slight bow and leaves to one of the tents that were left for the group.

"huh, so are you looking for an alternate source of magical training, or do you want to keep on the physical route?"

Serene Wind quietly finishes his food, then looks for a secluded place to practice the special kata of his school, the Dance of Harmony. He sheds his training suit, remaining only with his fundoshi, drops on his knees and begins the breathing exercises meant to empty his mind and relax his body. Then the Dance begins, a series of slow, ritual movements meant to attune body, mind and soul to each of the elements, letting their energies flow through one's essence, earth, water, fire, air, life and death. When he's finished, about half an hour later, he slips into his dogi again and he's ready to sleep, only he prefers lying outside on the grass rather then inside the tents, and if nothing disturbs him, he drifts off into peaceful dreams.
