D&D 5E Adventure suggestion

Anyone has a suggestion of an adventure for a one game session (maybe like 6-7 hours) for a bunch of old gamers (started with adnd) who'd like to try 5e? Level 1 to 5.

I do like what wotc did with the new ( can we still say new after 6 months?) edition, their dragon adventure seems quite good but no way we could play that many games (sigh).

Well anyway i'd appreciate your input.

I've ran The Sunless Citadel (the first 1st level adventure for 3rd edition) countless times. It's a great beginner adventure and easily ran with 5e since most of the monsters are in the MM.
I haven't ran it yet with 5e so I can't say if it's possible to run through in one session. Depends on how much you rp with the kobold and goblins, I suppose. If you want to be sure, just change the adventure so that there's no second floor.

Is it playable in one session?

No, probably not. But the adventure's structure with a host of smaller adventuring sites allows you (and you players) to select what they want to do in your one-session-run. You can either remove parts of the adventure and the respective hooks beforehand or let your players free reign on what they want to tackle.

Here's a simple dungeon that can be played for sure in one session: Barrow of the Evensong.

If you want something a little different, here's another one that's doable in one session: The Snow Job.

B2: Keep on the Borderlands. They even did a playtest version of it (well, the Caves of Chaos anyway) that you might be able to find. It easily adapts to 5E, and since it's open ended, they can quit whenever they feel like :)

Has anyone converted the starter adventure in the Basic set (red box) DMG? The one that leads on from the Bargle story in the players book? IIRC it only had the top floor of the dungeon but that should be enough for a one-shot? Might need to add a monster or two and maybe have a showdown with a Barglesque baddie at the end to make it feel complete (use Evil Mage from MM/5e Basic Set)?

Death in Freeport is a pretty good module that can be played in a single session.

I used it to introduce some people at work to DnD

I ran Village of Hommlet, virtually unmodified, for a bunch of old gamers (some literal greybeards - like myself), using 5e. Worked fine. Mentally inverting ACs as you go about does it, or you can swap in the 5e version of the monsters wholesale.

On the one hand you can say 'new' until it's replaced. OTOH, it feels more like AD&D than 3.x/Pathfinder/4e/Essentials ever did. So it's kinda a new-old edition. ;)
