Ogrin manages short, stuttered cry: "Kill... it... ". With the last of his strength reserves he tries to ram his dagger between the insects eyes. He knows he can't fight the creatures strength with his own and tries to put and end to its life instead.

OOC: Note that Ogrin has 8 HP max, not 7. Doesn't make a difference in damage taken, though - he's still Staggered and may only take one standard or move action this round. While grappling he can attack with a light weapon but with a -4 penalty to his attack roll. He'll take another point of nonlethal damage and fall unconscious.

oog: Actually, staggered is different from disabled in the way that you don't take damage if you take a strenous action. At least, I don't see anywhere in the SRD that a character takes damage after taking an action while staggered.

OOC: Cool. We've never dealt much with subdual/nonlethal damage in our p&p campaigns. I just assumed it was the same as being disabled. Adjusting the previous post.

OOC 2: I believe we're waiting for Rasereit, no?

oog: I guess so. It's been too long though. I'll just NPC him for now.

Halfling and giant vermin thrashed about, trying to gain control of the dire situation. Beneath the chaotic struggle, a lesser version of the giant snapped at Ogrin's feet. Surrounding the battle were Ogrin's companions, each looking for a way to injure his aggressor and strike it down.

Rasereit swung both axes at the centipede but was not able to injure the centipede with either.

(Attack1: 8 +5 =13, Damage: 1 +3 -5 =0,
Attack2: 2 +3 =5
).

Rillian's swift stabs were similarly unsuccessful. The tip of his blade could find no purchase upon the armor shells of the vermin.

(Attack: 3 + 4 =7)

From his own side of the furious struggle, Scun changed weapons and attacked with his spear. Unfortunately, the spear head found only hard carapace and bounced off ineffectually.

(Attack: 2 +7 =9)

Code:
round 4
20 Mona
17 Ogrin (3/8 + 1 NL) healed 1 Damage and 1 NL damage,
17 Centipedes (21 damage total)
16 Nezrak (0/5) suffered 2 damage, 1 point of dex damage (dex 11 now)
12 Rasereit (8/15)
09 Rillian (3/6)
07 Scun (9/9)

Mona invoked the power of her deity, then moved to the edge of the melee and laid a hand upon the struggling Ogrin. Wounds and bruises were washed away by the cleric's touch.

(Healed 1 damage, Healed 1 NL damage).

Ogrin felt much better now. Healing and hope had flowed from the cleric's fingertips into Ogrin. He raised his dagger and stabbed at the greater centipede. Though the halfling's steel slid through a gap in the armor, the centipede did not look injured.

(Attack: 19 +4 -4, Crit: 1 +4 -4 =1, Damage: 3 +1 -5 =0)

The centipede tried squeezing the life out of Ogrin but the halfling withstood the punishment for the moment. The lesser vermin at the halfling's feet nipped at him but missed ([

(Centipede Grp: 7 +5 =12 vs. Ogrin Grp: 17 -2 =15)
I]Attack: 3 +4 =7[/I])

Sensing blood and weakness, three centipedes attacked Nezrak. One of them had been harassing Rillian. The elf struck at them but wasn't able to hit at all.

(Attack: 2 +2 =4)

Of the three, only two were swift enough to draw blood from Nezrak. The third was too slow to attack the elf's legs. The elf was wracked by intense agony as his leg flesh was rent by their mandibles. The pain was great enough to threaten collapse, disabling Nezrak. To make things worse, the vermin's venom made him clumsier and more prone to attack.

(Attack1: 11 +4 =15, Damage: 1, Fort: 1 +1 =2, 1 dex damage)
(Attack 2: 13 +4 =17, Damage: 1, Fort: 11 +1 =12)
(Attack 3: 5 +4 =9)

The centipede at Rasereit's feet was unable to damage him for the moment (Attack: 9 +4 =13)

Nezrak's turn

Rillian will attack one of the small centipedes, that have been attacking Nezrak. His cleave (if any) will fall on another of the small centipedes.

Even as bleeding grey elf retreated from his tiny assailants, Rasereit continued to throw himself into the fight. Both axes got past his foe's carapace and into flesh proper. Only the greater of the two axes managed to deal any damage, it appeared.

(Attack1: 11 +5 =16, Damage: 6 +3 -5 =4)
(Attack2: 9 +5 =14, Damage: 4 +1 -5 =0)

Rillian took a stab at Nezrak's problem vermin but struck only the floor.

(Attack: 8 +4 =12)

Scun did his own stabbing at the biggest vermin in the room. One of his spear-thrusts went into a gap in its armor but the spearhead did not seem to injure the centipede.

(Attack: 13 +7: 20, Damage: 1 +4 -5 =0)

Earstwhile, Mona invoked the power of her deity once more and moved around to bestow His grace upon the ailing grey elf. (L19)

(Healed 1. 1/5) The most minor of Nezrak's wounds mended and the overwhelming pain faded to a searing ache.

With the dwarf's brutal strike, the creature seemed to slow. Ichor pooled upon the ground, dripping from a dozen gashes and holes upon its armored length. Though the carapaced flesh was weakening, its spirit was still strong. Anger fueled the ragged remains of its body to continue the assault upon the halfling in its clutches until all was lost.

Ogrin's turn

The sudden bursts of energy that bursts through his body gives Ogrin new strength to fight. He once again slashes at the centipede with his dagger, aiming for its eyes.
